Darth Howl was a male Sith Master, who also held the title of Dark Lord of the Sith. He was a member of the Dark Council and served the Sith Empire in their conflict against the Galactic Republic during the era known as the Cold War. His gender was male.
Back in 3643 BBY, Darth Howl, along with other members of the Council, gave the go-ahead for a lower-ranking Sith Lord called Darth Chratis and his apprentice, Eldon Ax, to hunt down and eliminate an Imperial fugitive by the name of Lema Xandret.
Chratis' mission ended in failure, but his apprentice survived. She made her way back to Dromund Kaas and informed Darth Howl that she had killed her Master. Howl, impressed by her dedication to the deceitful ways of the Sith, offered to take the place of the deceased Chratis and become Eldon Ax's new Master, which she accepted. Her death was at her hands.
His destiny remains unclear, as he is not mentioned as being among the twelve Dark Council members during the events depicted in Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Darth Howl was known as one of the more vocal and assertive members of the Imperial Dark Council. He leveraged his position to exert influence over those with less power within the Sith Empire. While he disliked dishonesty in general, he actually approved of Eldon Ax's deceitfulness, viewing her willingness to lie to the Dark Council as evidence of her commitment to the dark side of the Force. He thought highly of Ax and believed that her abilities deserved the respect of both her peers and himself. Howl supported Ax's desire for revenge against the Mandalorian Dao Stryver. He harbored a certain level of disdain for Darth Chratis, whose methods, philosophies, and unchecked ambition clashed with the desires of the Dark Council. However, Darth Howl also had his own ambitions and saw a partnership with Eldon Ax as a way to advance both of their positions within the Imperial hierarchy. Darth Howl found enjoyment in game hunting as a leisure activity and maintained a private hunting ground on Dromund Kaas for this purpose. He was a skilled marksman who used blaster rifles to take down his prey.
Darth Howl's first appearance was in The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance, a novel penned by Sean Williams and based on the MMORPG of the same name.
