Darth Chratis

Darth Chratis, a male individual, held the title of Sith Lord within the ranks of the reconstituted Sith Empire. During the era of the Cold War, he diligently served the goals of the Empire. Known for his harsh and demanding nature, Chratis chose Eldon Ax to be his Sith apprentice. The two figures played a crucial role in the events that would later be known as Independent Operation Sebaddon in the year 3643 BBY. These events led to an unlikely alliance between Chratis, the Empire's forces, the Jedi Order, and the Galactic Republic, all united against a new droid threat on the planet of Sebaddon. Tragically, Chratis met his end during this crisis, slain by his very own apprentice.

Biography

Darth Chratis preceded himself with a reputation for being a harsh and unforgiving instructor of Sith apprentices. His training methods were viewed with disapproval by members of the Sith Emperor's Dark Council. Despite this criticism, he was permitted to continue his instruction. By 3653 BBY, Chratis had selected a young Human girl, Eldon Ax, as his newest student.

In 3643 BBY, Darth Chratis and his apprentice received authorization to pursue Lema Xandret, an Imperial fugitive who also happened to be Ax's biological mother. With command over half of an Imperial division, Darth Chratis positioned himself above the planet of Krant while his apprentice, on a mission to Hutta, acquired information that pointed to Xandret's hidden base on the world of Sebaddon.

Upon Ax's return with her findings, Darth Chratis led his forces to Sebaddon, intending to conquer the world in the Emperor's name. However, upon their arrival, the Sith witnessed the full extent of Xandret's ambition. Her Fastbreeder combat droids were engaged in battle with a fleet of Republic starships commanded by Jedi Grand Master Satele Shan. Chratis's mission led him to form an alliance with Shan, but he ultimately met his demise at the hands of his apprentice during the ensuing conflict on Sebaddon.

Personality and traits

Darth Chratis possessed striking features, including blood-red eyes set within a deeply lined face. His thin lips revealed a nearly translucent tongue and sharp teeth, accompanied by a frail voice. His hands had withered talons instead of nails, and his footsteps sounded like the rustling of crushed leaves. Darth Chratis firmly believed that his apprentices existed to serve the Emperor through him, a belief he sought to instill in them. He considered the Jedi limited in their potential due to their refusal to fully embrace the Force. He argued that the teachings of Jedi Masters were inherently flawed because they promoted self-repression rather than the acceptance and utilization of emotions for greater power. Chratis believed that strength arose from conflict, which was necessary as long as enemies existed. The mere threat of force was often enough to compel others into his service.

Powers and abilities

Darth Chratis was a firm believer in the benefits of meditation, practicing it for at least an hour each day. The isolation he experienced while confined within his meditation sarcophagus forced him to rely solely on his own power for survival. Darth Chratis could unleash destructive blasts of Force lightning, which he used to destroy numerous hex droids and incapacitate the enraged Shigar Konshi. He used a long staff with a pointed end for support. When necessary, the staff could collapse to half its length, revealing a long-handled lightsaber concealed within. The extended hilt of the lightsaber provided him with a significant increase in the reach of his blade. Darth Chratis also possessed the abilities to read minds, communicate telepathically, and wield Force lightning.

Behind the scenes

Darth Chratis was first featured in The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance, a novel penned by Sean Williams and inspired by the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic. Like most of the characters in the novel, which was written early in the game's development, Chratis has not been further mentioned in any subsequent material related to The Old Republic's multimedia project.

Among the eight main characters, who each represent player classes from "Star Wars: The Old Republic", Darth Chratis represented the Sith Inquisitor class, an Imperial class that primarily utilizes ranged Force powers rather than physical attacks.
