Dominion (Star Dreadnought)

A Star Dreadnought and Super Star Destroyer, the Dominion saw action as early as 12 ABY. Initially belonging to Blitzer Harrsk, an Imperial warlord, and his forces, the Dominion was later seized by Gilad Pellaeon, an Imperial officer. Pellaeon utilized it to bolster the Imperial Remnant's navy. The Super Star Destroyer, under the leadership of Admiral Teren Rogriss, participated in the Battle of Orinda against the New Republic. Five years afterward, the Dominion clashed with New Republic forces during the Battle of Anx Minor, a significant loss for the Empire.

The Dominion remained in service until at least 41 ABY. During the Second Galactic Civil War, it functioned as the flagship for the Remnant's invading forces during the attack on the Roche asteroid field. As the Imperial fleet approached the asteroid field, Boba Fett, the Mandalorian leader who was assisting in the defense of Nickel One, an asteroid, persuaded the Verpine High Coordinator of Nickel One to deploy the asteroid's starfighter squadron, along with Mandalorian starships, against the Dominion. The fighters' suicide run proved successful, resulting in the destruction of the warship.

Description

Serving the Imperial Remnant, the Dominion was both a Star Dreadnought and a Super Star Destroyer. It acted as the flagship for the invasion force in 41 ABY when the Remnant attacked the Roche asteroid field.

History

Originally, the Star Dreadnought Dominion was part of the forces of Blitzer Harrsk, an Imperial warlord whose base of operations was located in the Deep Core region of the galaxy. Following Admiral Natasi Daala's unification of the Imperial Remnant, the Dominion was abandoned alongside the Star Dreadnought Megador at Deep 3, one of Harrsk's shipyards. In 12 ABY, Gilad Pellaeon, an Imperial officer, discovered Deep 3 while surveying Imperial armories in the Deep Core. He then acquired both Star Dreadnoughts to aid the Imperial Remnant in its conflict against the New Republic. Pellaeon, believing the New Republic was unaware of the Dominion and Megador's existence, aimed to exploit the warships to his advantage.

During a clash between Imperial and New Republic forces above the planet Orinda, the Dominion, under the command of Admiral Teren Rogriss, entered the system accompanied by six Interdictor cruisers, effectively trapping the New Republic forces. The Dominion joined the Star Dreadnought Reaper in fighting the New Republic Star Dreadnought Lusankya until the Republic forces managed to escape by creating a breach in the interdiction field. The Dominion remained an active part of the Remnant's navy, and in 17 ABY, it participated in the Battle of Anx Minor, a costly defeat for the Remnant.

The Super Star Destroyer's service spanned several decades. In 41 ABY, at the height of the Second Galactic Civil War, the Dominion was selected as the flagship of the Remnant's invasion fleet that targeted the Roche asteroid field. The Imperials sought to obtain the technology of the native Verpines for their war effort and initiated an assault on Nickel One, the primary asteroid. Boba Fett, the Mandalore who was assisting the Verpine in defending against the Imperials, convinced the High Coordinator of Nickel One to launch all of her starfighters at the Dominion in a suicide run concurrently with the initial attacks from Mandalorian starships. This tactic proved highly effective; the fighters destroyed the Super Star Destroyer and killed two Imperial Moffs who were unable to escape the warship's destruction. Despite this, the Imperials successfully captured Nickel One with their remaining forces.

Commanders and crew

Originally part of Blitzer Harrsk's forces, Gilad Pellaeon seized the Dominion for the Remnant's conflict with the New Republic. Admiral Teren Rogriss commanded the warship at Orinda. Decades later, during the battle for Nickel One, the Imperial commanders were unprepared for the strong Verpine-Mandalorian counterattack. Many Moffs from the Council of Moffs were aboard the Super Star Destroyer when it was attacked by Nickel One's starfighter force. Two of them died when the warship was destroyed.

Behind the scenes

The Dominion was initially mentioned in Legacy of the Force: Invincible, the ninth and final novel in the Star Wars: Legacy of the Force series, published in 2008. Later that year, The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia included an entry for the Super Star Destroyer. In 2012, The Essential Guide to Warfare provided a more detailed history of the Dominion.
