The war chest of Count Dooku represented an enormous accumulation of precious items and ancient relics that were kept within Castle Serenno, situated on the world of Serenno. Throughout the duration of the Clone Wars, Count Dooku built up this hoard by plundering numerous worlds via the Confederacy of Independent Systems, together with exploiting the people native to Serenno. Sometime between 19 BBY and 18 BBY, the Galactic Empire launched an operation, spearheaded by clone stormtrooper Captain Wilco, to transport the contents of the war chest away from the planet. Although the mission was mostly successful, the unexpected arrival of Clone Force 99—who were trying to pilfer a small fraction of the wealth to ensure they could maintain their independence from the Empire—resulted in about 15% of the total treasure being spread across the surface of Serenno.
The war chest belonging to Dooku made its debut appearance in the initial episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch's second season, entitled "Spoils of War," which originally aired on January 4, 2023. Jennifer Corbett, the head writer, expressed her intention for the episode to feature a pivotal assignment where the Bad Batch faced a choice: either walk away empty-handed or seize the war chest, thereby fulfilling their aspirations. The writing team opted to utilize Dooku's palace, recognizing its potential as a repository brimming with riches.
