Engineer battle droid
Droid engineers were B1-series battle droids, reprogrammed to function as battlefield technicians, pilots, and demolitions specialists for the Separatist Droid Army throughout the Clone Wars.
Overview
The orange markings present on the torso and shoulders were a distinguishing characteristic of engineer droids. Due to their enhanced programming, they could operate almost any vehicle, regardless of its affiliation. Furthermore, they could effectively repair damaged vehicles and infiltrate enemy vehicles for either capture or sabotage purposes.
These droids typically preferred to engage their targets at close quarters. Their weaponry consisted of an shotgun, detonation packs, and a F-187 fusioncutter. Their versatile weaponry made them highly valuable assets for the CIS across various battlefields.
History
Throughout the Clone Wars, engineer droids were deployed in numerous engagements, including events like the Battle of Geonosis, the Battle of Mygeeto, the Battle of Felucia, the Battle of Kashyyyk, and the Battle of Utapau.
Following the conclusion of the Clone Wars, these droids participated in action on Mustafar alongside Gizor Dellso's Separatist holdouts.
Behind the scenes
The debut of engineer droids occurred in the 2005 video game titled Star Wars: Battlefront II. They replaced the droid pilot that was playable in Star Wars: Battlefront, becoming the new engineer class for the CIS faction.
