Druggats represented a form of money. In the time of the Clone Wars, which pitted the Galactic Republic against the Confederacy of Independent Systems, an IG-100 MagnaGuard gave Garri, who was a Toydarian, twenty druggats. This payment was for the use of Garri's office space located on the planet Utapau, and no questions were asked during the exchange. This Toydarian later shared details regarding this transaction with two Jedi investigators, and this happened after one of the Jedi threatened him using a lightsaber.
The currency known as druggats was originally conceived by the writer Terry Brooks. They were introduced in the novelization of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, which was published in 1999. Since the currency was in the novel but absent from the movie, it was considered part of the Star Wars Legends timeline. Druggats became officially canon when they were referenced in "A Death on Utapau." This episode, which was from the unreleased sixth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, was made available as an incomplete story reel on StarWars.com in 2014 within The Clone Wars Legacy project.
