During the Galactic War, the Republic Special Forces Division established a unit known as Eclipse Squad.
Following the widely celebrated achievements of Havoc Squad in the campaign against General Arkos Rakton during the Battle of Corellia, Jace Malcom, the Supreme Commander, issued directives prioritizing Havoc for frontline engagements. Havoc, along with its commander, had become too well-known and valuable to continue performing covert operations for SpecForce. In the aftermath of Corellia, General Elin Garza, the commanding officer of SpecForce, dedicated over a year to creating a new covert operations team to take Havoc's place, experimenting with various species combinations and technologies, but without success.
Garza discovered Havoc's involvement in an incident that occurred on Manaan, and subsequently dispatched a recovery team to retrieve any technological remnants from the ruins of Genetics Laboratory G-1. This laboratory had been used by the Order of Revan to develop an "Infinite Army" utilizing Rakata cybernetics. Utilizing the technology that could be salvaged, and supplementing it with blueprints from the deceased mercenary scientist Krel (who was killed during one of Havoc's initial missions under its soon-to-be-famous commander), Garza oversaw the implantation of these cybernetics into six volunteers. While the initial results appeared promising, the members of Eclipse Squad soon experienced mental instability. A violent conflict erupted at Fort Klemark on Altair 9, resulting in the facility's destruction and the deaths of two hundred Republic soldiers. Eclipse Squad vanished shortly thereafter.
Garza located Havoc Squad on Rishi and met with their commander on the planet's surface to explain the situation. It was believed that Eclipse Squad was also on Rishi, hunting for Revanites. However, the psychological trauma induced by the Rakata implants had made them paranoid, perceiving themselves as loyal to the Republic while viewing everyone else – including fellow Republic soldiers – as enemies. Recognizing Havoc as the superior unit, Garza tasked them with tracking down and eliminating Eclipse Squad in the jungles near Raider's Cove, providing them with intelligence on the squad members. By jamming their signal relays, which were hidden amongst the dense Rishi palm trees, Havoc successfully lured out the members of Eclipse Squad one by one and eliminated them. The remaining members of Eclipse Squad incorrectly identified Havoc as Revanite traitors. Only their commander, Major Nol Corovani, understood the reality of the situation, pleading with Havoc to release him from the "nightmare" as they had done for his squadmates.
The disastrous outcome of Eclipse Squad, particularly the massacre that occurred at Fort Klemark, ultimately led to the termination of General Garza's career.
