Eres III, a world situated in the Mid Rim and specifically within the Esuain sector, holds a place in galactic history. During the tumultuous period of the Mandalorian Wars, it faced a devastating attack by the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders. This assault led to fires that raged across its surface for a decade, particularly devastating the Xoxin plains region. Later, Eres III became part of the empire under the control of the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Revan, during the Jedi Civil War. Much later, its history was referenced in the keynote address presented at Brentaal Academy's 412th Proceedings of Galactic Anthropology and History, millennia after these events.
Eres III, alternatively called Eres, was a terrestrial world on the edge of explored space. It was located within the Eres system, which itself was a component of the Esuain sector. The sector was located within the Trans-Hydian portion of the Mid Rim. Notably, the Xoxin plains formed a significant part of its landscape.
In 3962 BBY, a significant battle during the Mandalorian Wars occurred in the Eres system. The combatants were the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders against the Galactic Republic's military forces, which included the Jedi Knight known as the Jedi Exile. The Mandalorians bombarded Eres III, igniting the Xoxin plains, and these fires persisted for at least eleven years until 3951 BBY. The attackers left the planet devastated and subdued. During the Jedi Civil War, spanning from 3959 BBY to 3956 BBY, Eres III was incorporated into the empire established by Darth Revan, the Dark Lord of the Sith.
In 3951 BBY, Atton Rand, a former member of the Republic military, reminded the Jedi Exile of Eres III's fate when discussing the Mandalorian Wars.
Vilnau Teupt also referenced the attack on Eres III during the keynote address "Industry, Honor, Savagery: Shaping the Mandalorian Soul" at Brentaal Academy's 412th Proceedings of Galactic Anthropology and History, which took place in 24 ABY. However, Teupt mistakenly dated the event to 3963 BBY.
Eres III made its first appearance in the 2004 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, developed by Obsidian Entertainment. Within the game, the planet is mentioned in an optional conversation between the player character, the Jedi Exile, and Atton Rand. This article is written assuming that the game was completed fully and the conversation occurred as described. The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas mentioned the Eres system, introduced the shortened name "Eres," and placed Eres III in grid square Q-7. The 2012 reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare, authored by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart, validated that the shortened name also applied to the planet itself.
