Falleen

Falleen, a sentient species of repto-mammalian descent, originated from the planet bearing the same name. A notable trait was their ability to emanate potent pheromones. During the Clone Wars era, the Black Sun criminal organization was governed by a group of Falleen nobles, including Ziton Moj, who operated from their heavily fortified fortress located on Mustafar.

Biology and appearance

The Falleen U'il

The Falleen, a sentient species classified as repto-mammalian, possessed a uniquely alien physique. Their physical characteristics included mottled green skin, prominent ridges on their skulls, and long, typically black hair styled in ponytails. These beings emitted strong pheromones, primarily utilized for attracting potential partners.

History

The planet Falleen served as the native origin for the Falleen. However, they were a colonial race known for expanding their reach and adapting to thrive on numerous worlds. They also populated Ord Mantell alongside a human population.

As the Clone Wars raged on, a cohort of Falleen nobles took the reins of the Black Sun criminal syndicate. This organization prospered due to the diminishing law enforcement presence, as the Jedi were preoccupied with combating the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Black Sun gained infamy throughout the lawless Outer Rim Territories and beyond, with its Falleen leaders commanding operations from a heavily guarded fortress situated on Mustafar. Initially, Xomit Grunseit headed the cabal, but Maul eventually seized control of Black Sun, placing his enforcer Ziton Moj as the new leader.

Black Sun also found itself embroiled in a clandestine conflict with the Pyke Syndicate, leading Asajj Ventress and Quinlan Vos to investigate a kidnapping orchestrated by the Pykes. Ventress manipulated a Falleen guard on Mustafar, leading him to believe she was affected by his pheromones. She and Vos then coerced him into revealing information about the Pykes. Subsequently, the pair infiltrated the Black Sun fortress, engaging in combat with more Falleen in their pursuit of the kidnapped family.

During the reign of the Galactic Empire, Falleen, like other alien species such as Umbarans and Neimoidians, were often the subject of jokes at Imperial Academies, including the Royal Imperial Academy on Coruscant. Around this time, Ango Croom, a Falleen, was the leader of the Varluk Organization. A Falleen [gangster](/article/gangster] named Annaz was a member of the Malandro syndicate before she was attacked and tortured by the bounty hunter Brand, whose parents Annaz had previously murdered. Several Falleen served as overseers in MaDall's enslaving operation on Oon, mistreating Sabine Wren when she went undercover as a slave. She then incited a rebellion against the slavers, during which the Falleen guards were attacked and subdued.

Behind the scenes

The Falleen made their debut in "Eminence," the fourteenth episode of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which aired on January 19, 2013. In the first film of the Prequel trilogy, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, micro-machine figurines of Prince Xizor, a significant Falleen antagonist from Shadows of the Empire, were used as set dressing in the Mos Espa Grand Arena. Due to the background nature of this "appearance," it remains uncertain whether this cameo constitutes a true appearance of the species. While Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook incorporated the character into the canon continuity, it did not confirm his presence at the Boonta Eve Classic.

Within Legends continuity, the Falleen species was first introduced in the novel Shadows of the Empire, authored by Steve Perry and released in April 1996.
