Plot summary

Emperor Palpatine is seen adjusting himself in his seat within his throne room located on the second Death Star. Standing next to him is Darth Vader. Luke Skywalker then arrives from the turbolift, carrying a gift enclosed in a red box. Palpatine uses the Force to fling the box away and gives an evil laugh.

As he makes a move, Darth Vader walks down the steps and activates his red lightsaber. Skywalker responds by activating his green lightsaber. A lightsaber battle ensues between the two. Vader, utilizing his strong command of the Force, gains the advantage and throws Skywalker to the side. He then uses the Force to lift and begin to Force choke his son. Skywalker struggles to breathe, but manages to use the Force to bring the red gift package to him, and uses the Force to remove the wrapping.

Skywalker reveals to his father a mug shaped like the Death Star that reads "#1 DAD." Vader is moved by his son's present and releases Skywalker. Skywalker then has a memory of him and his father putting C-3PO together at the Lars homestead. Subsequently, Vader provides Skywalker with a lightsaber training session using a Marksman-H training remote, which shoots laser blasts at Skywalker. Vader also teaches Skywalker how to drive in the Lars family's X-34 landspeeder. They accidentally knock over a moisture vaporator, which makes Uncle Owen Lars mad. The two then run away.

Returning to the present, Vader offers his hand to his son, and they make amends. However, an angry Palpatine assaults Skywalker with Force lightning. Not wanting to lose his son, Vader seizes Palpatine and throws him down the Death Star's reactor shaft. Skywalker embraces Vader. The father and son then share a container of blue milk.
