Fay

Fay was a female near-Human Jedi Master of great age, spanning centuries. Her incredibly strong bond with the Force was renowned, and it granted her the ability to maintain a youthful visage. Among the storied wandering Jedi Masters, Fay's legendary deeds were well-known throughout the Jedi Order.

Because she did not believe teaching was her calling, she departed from the Core and began to wander the Outer Rim worlds. For numerous centuries, Fay allowed the Force to be her compass, guiding her to places where her help was needed, leading to her reputation for resolving numerous disputes and even bringing an end to entire wars.

During the time of the Clone Wars, she sensed the Force directing her to the planet Queyta, where she met with several other Jedi Masters, including Obi-Wan Kenobi, in order to retrieve a critical antidote required to counteract a lethal new chemical weapon. The subsequent mission led Fay and the other Jedi to cross paths with Dark Jedi Asajj Ventress and Durge, a bounty hunter who was 2,000 years old. During the confrontation, Fay battled Ventress, but following a massive explosion, Ventress inflicted a severe wound on the Jedi Master. Fay then channeled her remaining strength into Kenobi, enabling him to escape with the antidote and save countless lives.

Biography

Early life

Jedi Master Fay

Fay, a near-Human female, lived during the final centuries of the Galactic Republic. Being Force-sensitive, she successfully completed the Jedi Trials and achieved the rank of [Jedi Knight](/article/jedi_knight-legends]. Afterward, she felt the Force calling her to a nomadic existence, far from the Core. After becoming a Jedi Master, she chose to leave the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, declining to take on a Padawan. Instead, she chose to wander the galaxy, following the guidance of the Force. Over the subsequent centuries, she rarely found reason to return to the galactic capital, preferring to go wherever she felt she was needed most.

As time went on, and Fay's presence on Coruscant became less frequent, tales of her exploits in the distant reaches of the galaxy grew into legend among many Jedi students. However, some of the more seasoned Masters were aware that the legends were, in fact, true and paid close attention to reports from faraway planets describing the actions of a mysterious Jedi who matched Fay's description.

Her time spent in the field, whether on the most isolated rural planets or those closer to the Core, contributed to saving thousands of lives. She gained recognition for resolving numerous disputes and wars by instilling peace and love into the hearts of those consumed by hatred. Throughout the hundreds of years during which she mediated wars on various planets, she never once employed a lightsaber in physical combat. It was believed that she never even carried one after her initial training.

Mission to Queyta

Fay uses the Force against Ventress.

In the early months of the Clone Wars, Fay sensed the Force drawing her to the volcanic planet of Queyta. Upon arriving, she discovered that several other nomadic Jedi had also felt the Force's call. She encountered Jedi Masters Nico Diath, Jon Antilles, Knol Ven'nari, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, who had been involved in the war since its beginning. Kenobi was the last Jedi to arrive, and Ven'nari reprimanded him for his tardiness, stating that she had more important matters to attend to. However, Fay sensed the pain and tragedy that Kenobi had already endured during the war and reached out to him, placing her hand on his forehead and imbuing him with a renewed sense of hope and energy.

The Jedi's mission was to infiltrate a chemical factory and secure the antidote for a new Separatist biological weapon known as swamp gas. However, upon entering the factory, Diath noted the absence of battle droids. Fay and the other Jedi heightened their Force awareness as Kenobi led the search for the antidote. The search was abruptly halted when Fay and the others encountered the Dark Acolyte Asajj Ventress and the bounty hunter Durge.

Almost immediately, Durge triggered a massive explosion, and the ensuing battle resulted in the bounty hunter killing Masters Ven'nari, Diath, and Antilles. After witnessing the death of Nico Diath, Fay realized that Ventress was attempting to escape with the antidote. To prevent her, Fay used the Force to hurl debris and shattered glass at the fleeing Ventress, causing her to stumble due to her injuries. Although Ventress attempted to crush Fay's heart with the Force, Fay was able to resist the Dark Jedi's efforts and used the Force to extract all of Ventress's thoughts, causing her to lose consciousness. After Ventress was incapacitated, Kenobi informed Fay that he had recovered a vial of the antidote, and together, the two Jedi began to retreat amidst the factory's destruction.

One with the Force

Fay receives a mortal wound from Asajj Ventress.

The chemical factory descended into chaos due to several large explosions initiated by Durge. As Fay and Kenobi attempted to escape the compound, a significant explosion occurred near the Jedi, causing Fay to falter and lower her defenses. During those brief moments, a revived Ventress used her double lightsabers to impale Fay from behind, inflicting severe wounds. Ventress and Durge realized that the factory was on the verge of complete destruction and boarded a nearby Separatist ship, leaving Kenobi and Fay to perish.

Despite the severity of the wounds inflicted by Ventress, Fay's strong connection to the Force would have eventually allowed her to recover. However, she recognized the Republic's urgent need for the antidote that Kenobi possessed. In a final act of self-sacrifice, she touched Kenobi and channeled her last reserves of strength into him through the Force. As a result of Fay's sacrifice, Kenobi was able to jump to safety and ultimately escape the planet, bringing the antidote back to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

Personality and traits

Fay was considered a striking woman by all the species who encountered her. Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn once described her as "beautiful and ageless" after an encounter. Following the mission to Queyta, Obi-Wan Kenobi remarked that no one harbored hatred for Master Fay and that throughout her entire Jedi career, she never found it necessary to use a lightsaber in combat. For many centuries, she wandered the galaxy, guided by the Force. Her physical presence, combined with her wisdom in the Force, allowed Fay to bring peace and harmony to many war-torn planets she visited.

Fay was characterized by her pale complexion, blond hair, and pointed ears resembling those of the Sephi. She also had distinctive tattoos on her left cheek and forehead. Due to her profound connection with the Force, Fay's physical body remained ageless, and she appeared to be a beautiful twenty-year-old for almost her entire life.

Behind the scenes

Fay's sole appearance occurred in Republic 53, the fifty-third issue of the Star Wars: Republic series of comics. Her character and story were created by writer Haden Blackman and illustrated by artist Brian Ching.

The character of Fay also shares traits with near-human individuals such as Aleco Stusea, an unnamed member of the Wardens of the Sky, and Princess Lourdes. All of these characters possess pointed ears. Leland Chee, on the Star Wars Message Boards, stated that his theory is that "all pointy-eared species are either Sephi or closely related to Sephi."
