FN-1824

A male human stormtrooper designated FN-1824 served the First Order forces during the time of the New Republic Era. In 34 ABY, subsequent to the Battle of Takodana, FN-1824 was given the duty of guarding Rey, a Force-sensitive scavenger that was being held captive by Kylo Ren on Starkiller Base. Rey, making use of her undeveloped Force abilities, employed a Jedi mind trick on FN-1824, compelling him to release her from her imprisonment. Although her initial two attempts were unsuccessful, she eventually managed to use the Jedi ability. FN-1824 then released Rey's restraints and, following her instructions, left his F-11D blaster rifle behind before departing from her presence. Eventually, the trooper was found in his living quarters and interrogated. He was perplexed and possessed no recollection of the preceding events.

Behind the scenes

Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, a film released in 2015, featured the character FN-1824, with Daniel Craig playing the role. In both the adult and younger readers' adaptations of the movie, the guard simply looks at Rey when her first attempt to use a mind trick fails. Her second attempt proves successful. Furthermore, the novelizations include Rey telling the guard to go back to his quarters and his promise to not speak of their encounter with anyone.

The character was called FN-007 by the film's crew. Craig's cameo happened because he was at Pinewood Studios getting ready for his next James Bond movie and asked if he could participate. Craig thought he would just be in the background, like the stormtrooper who hits his head in A New Hope, so he was shocked to find out he would be in a whole scene. He was even more shocked that Abrams had him come in for a 3-hour ADR session instead of having someone else do the voice of the character.

Fans gave this stormtrooper the nickname "JB-007," which is a reference to Craig's role as James Bond, agent 007. In the LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens video game, he is identified by the name FN-1824. Even though the game is not canon, Pablo Hidalgo, who is a member of the story group, confirmed on Twitter that the game's names for characters that had not been named before, including FN-1824, were considered canon.
