The act of drawing Force energy away from another and into oneself was an ability often linked to the dark side of the Force, and was used by a number of individuals. This action involved the summoning of life energies from other sources by the user, who would then proceed to absorb it.
According to the Imperial adviser Yupe Tashu, certain Sith Lords from the past extracted Force energy from other beings. By siphoning the life essence of others, the ancient Sith amplified their connection to the dark side of the Force and prolonged their own lives for hundreds of years.
The Nightsister shaman Mother Talzin's spirit managed to break free from the spirit world and enter a stone monolith so she could directly take control of the Dark Lord of the Sith Count Dooku, enabling her to siphon his life energy and regain her physical form during the process. A green mist of a certain color was initially emitted from Dooku's body. Later, the substance flowed from the Count's mouth and nose, as Talzin forcefully took his life force. The victim then collapsed, screaming in agony.
The ritual was intended to permanently restore Talzin's body, but the witch was interrupted by the arrival of Darth Sidious and General Grievous. Grievous stabbed her body with two lightsabers, turning the Nightsister's physical form into a dried husk and ending Talzin's life.
During the Galactic Civil War, the Queen of Ktath'atn, a sentient abersyn symbiote who governed her kingdom as its queen using a humanoid host body, possessed the ability to "feed" on others, enhancing her own power through mass-feeding from her human subjects while they were sleeping. This process was conducted in a Ktath'atn village some distance from the Citadel of Ktath'atn, on a balcony where the symbiote fed. Those subjected to her powers experienced discomfort as a red, glittering energy was drawn out from their bodies through their mouths, flowing into that of their leader.
The Force-sensitive planetary ruler particularly enjoyed feeding on Jedi who had a strong connection to the Force. She would welcome guests into her citadel for only one day each year. During these events, the Queen of Ktath'atn would receive strange life forms from across the galaxy in exchange for various favors and gifts given to her guests. After this, the ruler would then feed on the life forms.
Under the direction of Darth Sidious, the Sith Lord and leader of the Sith Eternal cult, the use of Force drain resulted in the appearance of spectral white streams emerging from the chests of those being deprived of their life force, swirling into the palms of the user. Those affected by this ritual found themselves extremely weakened.
During the Battle of Exegol in the war between the First Order and the Resistance, the resurrected Darth Sidious drained the Force energy from the Jedi Rey and Ben Solo to amplify his strength, rejuvenating himself to a power level similar to that during his moment of triumph on Coruscant and his defeat over Endor. Rey, however, stood up, ignited her lightsabers, and destroyed Sidious for good when he attempted to kill her with Force lightning.
