Fyg Boras

Fyg Boras was a Vor male senator from the planet of Vortex, who represented it in the New Republic Senate during 27 ABY, within the New Republic. As the Yuuzhan Vong invaded the galaxy, Vortex was one of the many planets that fell to them. After the galactic capital of Coruscant was also captured, Boras and the other surviving New Republic members sought safety on Mon Calamari.

Lando Calrissian, a former smuggler who had become a businessman, and Talon Karrde, the leader of the Smugglers' Alliance, arrived on Mon Calamari bringing relief. They approached Boras and negotiated a deal: in exchange for Boras's vote on an amendment that would allow the New Republic to purchase Calrissian's YVH 1 battle droids, they would give him twenty-five tons of relief supplies to distribute to refugees.

Instead of freely distributing the supplies, Boras made the decision to sell them for his personal gain. He knew that with his homeworld occupied by the Yuuzhan Vong, his chances of reelection were low, so he prioritized his own future. However, in their subsequent meeting, Calrissian and Karrde used a holo-recording of their initial negotiation with Boras to blackmail him into changing his vote for the next Chief of State from Fyor Rodan to Cal Omas.

Biography

Yuuzhan Vong War

Vortex, homeworld of Fyg Boras

Fyg Boras, a Vor male, served as a senator in the New Republic, representing his homeworld of Vortex within the New Republic Senate. This occurred during the Yuuzhan Vong War, a widespread conflict throughout the galaxy between the New Republic and the aggressive Yuuzhan Vong.

During 27 ABY, as the war raged on, Vortex was overtaken by the Yuuzhan Vong, resulting in a large number of refugees. Later that year, the planet Coruscant, which served as the galactic capital, was also captured by the Vong. This prompted Boras, along with other surviving members of the New Republic government, to flee to the planet Mon Calamari.

Following the recent death of former Chief of State Borsk Fey'lya during the attack on Coruscant, an election was held to determine the next Chief of State. Boras was part of a group of senators who supported Fyor Rodan, a senator known for his opposition to the Jedi Order led by Luke Skywalker. When Lando Calrissian, a former smuggler who now headed the battle droid manufacturing company Tendrando Arms, and Talon Karrde, the leader of the Smugglers' Alliance, arrived on the planet, they offered Skywalker their help in ensuring that Cal Omas, a senator who supported Jedi involvement in the war, would be elected.

Election of a New Chief of State

Calrissian and Karrde arranged a private meeting with Boras, along with several other senators who were part of Rodan's faction. They offered Boras twenty-five metric tons of relief supplies to be distributed to the Vor survivors on Mon Calamari. In return, they requested that Boras vote in favor of an amendment in an upcoming military appropriations bill that would allow the New Republic Military to purchase YVH 1 battle droids from Tendrando Arms. Boras agreed to the request, and, with the support of other senators who were similarly bribed, the amendment was quickly approved.

Lando Calrissian, who blackmailed Fyg Boras into changing his vote

However, after receiving the supplies, Boras decided to sell them for his own personal profit. He realized that with his homeworld under Yuuzhan Vong occupation and without a homeworld to vote for him, his chances of being reelected were slim, and he was thinking of his future. Boras did not anticipate that Karrde and Calrissian would bribe a large number of other senators and flood the market with their own relief supplies, which kept commodity prices low. As a result, Boras was barely making a profit while still having to pay for the warehouses where he stored his relief supplies.

Shortly after the amendment was passed, Calrissian and Karrde met with Boras again to persuade him to support Omas. When Boras refused and reaffirmed his commitment to Rodan, Karrde showed him a holo-recording of their initial meeting, which showed Boras accepting the bribe to vote for the amendment. Boras argued that if the holo was made public, Calrissian and Karrde would also be guilty of bribery.

Calrissian informed the Vor senator that they intended to reveal that the relief supplies were supposed to be distributed for free to the refugees, not sold. He also reminded Boras that such an act would be considered illegal if proven. To prevent the holo from being circulated, Boras ultimately announced his public support for Omas's bid for Chief of State. With a large number of Rodan supporters changing their votes due to being bribed or blackmailed by Calrissian and Karrde, Omas won the election.

Personality and traits

After losing his homeworld to the Yuuzhan Vong and worrying about his reelection prospects, Boras became corrupt and readily accepted a bribe from Lando Calrissian and Talon Karrde to secure his financial future. Despite Calrissian explaining that the relief supplies were intended for the Vor refugees on Mon Calamari, Boras felt no guilt in secretly selling them instead.

When Calrissian and Karrde flooded the local market with supplies, causing prices to drop, Boras was more concerned that his sale profits were barely covering the costs of warehousing his stock, rather than caring about the well-being of his people. Boras preferred a cologne with a subtle mint scent.
