Gehren Rand was a human female Jedi Initiate. During her tenure at the Jedi Temple, she belonged to the Kybuck Clan. On the eve of her scheduled departure with fellow Jedi Initiate Obi-Wan Kenobi to Ilum for participation in the Gathering, Rand departed from the Jedi Temple. Her purpose was to aid her father, whose peril she perceived through Force visions. Ultimately, she struck a bargain with Black Sun Lieutenant Nodrus Cay, offering Eadun silver in exchange for offworld transportation.
Kenobi eventually found Rand, and after being formally introduced to Cay and her subordinates, he chose to accompany Rand on her quest, as he could not envision a life devoid of her companionship and solace. Cay, upon discovering their Jedi identities, resolved to enlist them into her service and had them cuffed.
Ultimately, the two Initiates were able to break free, but Rand chose not to return to the Temple with Kenobi, opting instead to assist her father. Years afterward, Kenobi documented in his journal that he never encountered Rand again. He was uncertain of her fate or whether she succeeded in rescuing her father. Kenobi also expressed his hope that she had not succumbed to her anxieties.
Christopher Cantwell conceived Gehren Rand for the Star Wars: Obi-Wan comic series. She made appearances in flashbacks within its inaugural issue, with illustrations by Ario Anindito. Marvel Comics published the issue on May 4, 2022.
