Grath, a male darktrooper, served under the command of Dark Jedi Zasm Katth and Baddon Fass. His assignment involved the search for the starship known as the Millennium Falcon on the moon of Nar Shaddaa in 10 ABY. When the two Dark Jedi detected the presence of Jedi Knight Vima-Da-Boda among the bustling crowds of Nar Shaddaa, Fass commanded Grath to open fire on the civilians using his turbocannon. The darktrooper obeyed this directive, killing a significant number of innocent individuals, yet failing to eliminate the elusive Jedi.

During the Galactic Civil War, Grath was a male stormtrooper in service to the reborn Galactic Emperor Palpatine's Dark Empire. He was eventually chosen to join the darktroopers, an elite unit of black-armored stormtroopers enhanced by the dark side of the Force. In 10 ABY, Grath, along with other dark troopers and standard stormtroopers, was sent on a mission to the moon of Nar Shaddaa.
Under the leadership of Zasm Katth and Baddon Fass, two Dark Jedi of Palpatine's and members of the Dark Side Elite, the Imperial forces were given several objectives to complete on the moon. Grath and the troops under the Dark Jedi's command were tasked with contacting Boba Fett, a bounty hunter, to enlist his help in locating the Millennium Falcon, the starship of New Republic heroes Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo. They were also to report any sightings of the Millennium Falcon to Executor Sedriss QL, the leader of the Dark Side Elite, and to eliminate Vima-Da-Boda, the Jedi Knight fugitive who had sought refuge on Nar Shaddaa.
After Katth and Fass's failed attempt to recruit Fett, they received information from darktrooper team two, which had observed the Millennium Falcon landing inside the hangar of Shug Ninx, a local mechanic, and had engaged the New Republic starship. Grath then joined the two Dark Jedi and other stormtroopers as they moved through Nar Shaddaa's streets to support team two and capture the Millennium Falcon. However, as Katth and Fass were moving through a crowded street, they both sensed Vima-Da-Boda's presence nearby.

Following Sedriss's orders to kill the elderly Jedi woman, Fass ordered Grath to ready his turbocannon and fire into the crowd. Grath obeyed without hesitation, unleashing a barrage of fire on innocent bystanders. This indiscriminate assault resulted in the deaths of many, but Vima-Da-Boda escaped into Nar Shaddaa's lower levels, where the Solos eventually found her.
Grath's commanders soon arrived at Ninx's hangar, where they discovered the Millennium Falcon abandoned and all the Imperial forces defeated. Fass and Katth took the bodies of their fallen soldiers back to the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Invincible, which was in orbit around the moon, leaving a small group of stormtroopers to guard the Millennium Falcon. However, Solo and his allies killed that team when they returned to retrieve their ship.
As a darktrooper, Grath's abilities were enhanced by the dark side of the Force, and he underwent limited Force training to become a more formidable fighter than his counterparts in the Stormtrooper Corps.
Grath's first appearance was in the comic book Dark Empire II 2, which was written by Tom Veitch and illustrated by Cam Kennedy. Dark Horse Comics published it on January 24, 1995.
