Gretta, a human being, came into existence on Jedha as a member of a Fallanassi family. Eventually, she located Cuata, the expert in kyber crystals, after his escape from the clutches of the Galactic Empire. She then transported him to the planet Christophsis and began a collaborative partnership with him. In the year 1 BBY, the Empire orchestrated the destruction of the Holy City on Jedha, resulting in the death of Gretta's entire family. A period of four years following the demise of her family, Gretta intervened to rescue Luke Skywalker, a Jedi undergoing training, from being turned over to the Empire. This rescue occurred when Skywalker was visiting a cantina on Christophsis, seeking kyber crystals. Gretta achieved this by eliminating the cantina's customers and bartender. Subsequent to Gretta's agreement to assist Skywalker in his quest for a kyber crystal, the pair embarked on a journey aboard Gretta's speeder, which was then interrupted by an assault from a creature. Skywalker made an attempt to calm the creature, but Cuata ultimately killed it. Following this, Cuata requested Skywalker's lightsaber.
