The purpose of this feature was to prevent enemies from examining the bodies of these soldiers belonging to the species. During a battle circa 18 BBY on the planet Sunrise located in the Unknown Regions, Grysk soldiers employed this armor against the Chiss Ascendancy and the Paccian Governance. The resulting detonations of the armor led to numerous Grysk casualties, swiftly concluding the conflict.
The concept of explosive armor appeared in Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil, which was released in 2021. This novel serves as the concluding installment of Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy by Timothy Zahn.
