H-60 Tempest bomber

The H-60 Tempest bomber represents a model of bomber and starfighter crafted by Slayn & Korpil for the Galactic Republic during the era of the Clone Wars. Even though the Republic Navy decided against its deployment, the H-60's fundamental design served as the muse for the Blade Wing prototype, which subsequently paved the way for the creation of the A/SF-01 B-wing starfighter.

Characteristics

The H-60 Tempest bomber's form resembled a wide, unbending airfoil, featuring detachable cockpits at each extremity—one designated for the pilot and the other for the gunner.

History

An H-60 bomber used by the Alliance to Restore the Republic

Slayn & Korpil, the Verpine shipwrights, produced the H-60 Tempest bomber for the starfleet of the Galactic Republic amidst the Clone Wars. However, the design was not favored by the navy due to challenges encountered by clone trooper test pilots. Consequently, a significant number of H-60s were discarded in scrapyards.

Fifteen years following the foundation of the Galactic Empire, the dictatorial state that succeeded the Republic, the Mon Calamari engineer Quarrie found inspiration in the H-60—alongside the T-6 shuttle and the V-19 Torrent starfighter—to develop the formidable Blade Wing prototype. Quarrie then contributed both his prototype and his expertise to the anti-Imperial Alliance to Restore the Republic. He collaborated with Slayn & Korpil in secret to further refine the ship, ultimately leading to the emergence of the A/SF-01 B-wing starfighter.

Around the time of the Battle of Yavin, some original H-60s remained in service with the Alliance to Restore the Republic. A minimum of two such ships originating from Ord Bueri were held in reserve at the Alliance's main base situated on Yavin 4.
