Han Solo and the Princess, a musical piece, was created by John Williams and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra specifically for the film The Empire Strikes Back.
This theme represents the love between Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa. It is most notably heard during their romantic interaction on the Millennium Falcon while inside the space slug. The theme is used again, with a more dramatic tone, as Solo is encased in carbonite within Cloud City. It resurfaces in Return of the Jedi when Leia reveals herself to Han after his liberation from the carbonite at Jabba's Palace. Furthermore, it plays immediately after the destruction of the second Death Star, at which time Leia tells Han that Luke Skywalker is her brother, effectively ending any competition Han may have perceived between them for Leia's affections.
This love theme is viewed as a complementary development of Princess Leia's Theme, which is the theme associated with Princess Leia and was initially introduced in A New Hope. Both themes begin on a major sixth. While Princess Leia's Theme embodies the pure innocence of the Princess, Han Solo and the Princess replaces this innocence with a new sense of maturity in her character.
In the game Star Wars: Battlefront II, this theme is featured when the player controls Han Solo.
The soundtrack released on December 18, 2015 for the sequel trilogy film from 2015, Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, includes a track titled "Han and Leia." This track incorporates themes from previous films, including "The Force Theme" and "Princess Leia's Theme" from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, as well as "Han Solo and the Princess." It also presents gentler renditions of themes from The Force Awakens, such as "March of the Resistance" and Kylo Ren's theme. It is first heard when Han and Leia reunite on Takodana after many years, and it continues into the Resistance base located on D'Qar. The theme also accompanies the sorrowful embrace between Leia and Rey upon the Resistance's return from Starkiller Base, where Han was killed by Leia's and his own son. It makes a brief reappearance in The Last Jedi when Luke gives Han's golden dice to Leia on Crait. The theme is also present in The Rise of Skywalker as Leia senses the final confrontation between Kylo Ren and Rey.
