The aerial abode of Han Solo served as the residence for the Rebel champion General Han Solo and his Wookiee comrade Chewbacca, a structure they conceived and constructed themselves. For a considerable time, Solo and Chewbacca had envisioned establishing themselves in a sky house—an architectural concept they originated—an aspiration that materialized in 5 ABY, when Cloud City's Baron Administrator Lando Calrissian extended an offer to his longtime acquaintance Solo: a lease on a segment of the sky near Cloud City on Bespin. To embark on the construction of their unique home, Solo and Chewbacca took a temporary leave from the Senate Planetary Intelligence Network, utilizing a rented warehouse in Cloud City as their construction hub. The resulting sky house was an intricate and unparalleled engineering marvel, boasting contemporary amenities, opulent decor, and remarkable features, including a revolving living space, a domed culinary area, a comprehensive engineering workshop, docking ports for Solo's vessel, the Millennium Falcon, a garage capable of housing two cloud-cars, outdoor viewing platforms, and numerous sleeping quarters.
The house was rapidly brought to completion, and Solo and Chewbacca hosted a celebratory housewarming event attended by many prominent galactic figures. Among the gifts Solo received from his companions, the most notable was KT-18, a housekeeping droid tasked with maintaining the residence. The unexpected arrival of Trioculus, a claimant to the Imperial throne, and the presence of the vindictive Zorba Desilijic Tiure, both adversaries of Solo and his allies, rendered their situation on Bespin precarious immediately after the party, compelling Solo to abandon the house mere hours after the festivities concluded. Despite harboring hopes of returning to his dream home, Solo ultimately found himself residing on Coruscant, rather than Bespin.
The sky house was owned by the renowned Corellian smuggler and New Republic general Han Solo, who intended to share the dwelling with his Wookiee partner Chewbacca. Due to a life debt owed to Solo and their inseparable friendship, Chewbacca was slated to reside there as well. Although primarily intended for Solo and Chewbacca, the sky house's numerous bedrooms could accommodate guests such as Lando Calrissian, the overseer of nearby Cloud City, or Leia Organa, Solo's romantic partner. The residence also offered ample space should Solo and Organa choose to settle down and raise a family.
As a housewarming present, Luke Skywalker, acting on the advice of Ken and C-3PO, procured Solo a housekeeping droid from the Droidfest on Tatooine. KT-18, affectionately nicknamed "Kate," was designed to maintain the cleanliness of the abode, specializing in stain removal, dishwashing, and window cleaning. While Solo and Chewbacca were both competent cooks and capable of managing the culinary aspects of household living, Solo's friends were convinced that the pair would struggle to maintain a tidy home without the droid's assistance.
Regrettably, Solo was unable to take up residence in his new home. Immediately following his housewarming celebration, he, his companions, and KT-18 were compelled to evacuate due to the overwhelming presence of the Galactic Empire and the proximity of the vengeful Zorba Desilijic Tiure, whose son Jabba Desilijic Tiure had been killed by Organa.
Han Solo's sky house was situated approximately 3.2 kilometers from Cloud City. Employing repulsor technology, it floated in the sky, similar to the larger and older Cloud City. The location was plagued by "braze," a noxious, polluted brown haze emanating from a factory barge on the Rethin Sea, operated by Trioculus, an Imperial warlord who falsely claimed to be Galactic Emperor Palpatine's three-eyed offspring. When the braze became excessively bothersome, Solo would relocate the house, which possessed the ability to adjust its altitude, to a higher elevation.

Conceptualized by Han Solo and Chewbacca, who together pioneered the idea of a sky house, the dwelling was considered a palatial residence, "huge" in its dimensions. Its exterior was characterized by a blocky, multi-layered design, featuring vertical projections on both the ventral and dorsal sides. To enhance visibility, particularly at night or in cloudy conditions, the house was equipped with several marker lights to prevent collisions with passing aircraft. The front entrance opened onto a yard platform, facilitating the docking of cloud cars for transportation. Multiple observation decks were also present, offering open-air viewing opportunities. For added convenience, the sky house featured a two-cloud-car garage, providing secure storage for Solo's personal vehicles. Furthermore, the residence included docking facilities for Solo's renowned Millennium Falcon. Solo had a private bedroom, outfitted with an ultra-high-density household communication screen. Chewbacca also had his own bedroom, and several additional bedrooms were available for guests. The home's circular living room could rotate to offer panoramic views in any direction, while the kitchen, situated beneath a transparent dome, provided a view of the sky. A dedicated workroom allowed Solo and Chewbacca to tinker with technology and repair equipment, even as large as airspeeders.
Circular windows afforded external views, and small tables and floral arrangements adorned the hallways and rooms. Some doors deviated from the traditional rectangular shape, instead featuring irregular pentagonal designs. The luxurious home was equipped with numerous modern conveniences, including two ultra-high-density household communication screens, floating beds, a nanowave stove, a trash compactor and recycler, a cooling chamber for food storage, an answering machine for capturing messages, the most comfortable chair ever designed, and a remote-control mechanism for opening the cloud car garage door.
General Han Solo had nurtured a long-standing desire to establish a home of his own, and over time, he and his partner Chewbacca had conceived the notion of a sky house, a floating residence. Finally, in 5 ABY, Solo and Chewbacca recognized an opportunity to realize their vision. Solo's old friend Lando Calrissian, having resumed his position as Baron Administrator of Cloud City, offered Solo a lease on a section of sky near Cloud City. Solo determined that he should accept the offer. Solo and his friend and housemate Chewbacca capitalized on repulsor technology to pioneer the concept of a sky house, constructing a floating dwelling. Solo eagerly anticipated having a place of his own to call home. Solo and Chewbacca rented space in a warehouse in Cloud City's Port Town district, where they, both skilled mechanics and engineers, personally constructed the home. They had to take a short pause to help their friend Luke Skywalker, but the house was still completed in short order.

Once the house was completed, Solo hosted a housewarming celebration. He invited many of his friends, who viewed Solo's acquisition of a private residence as a significant event. Prominent figures such as Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker, Solo's girlfriend and New Republic Minister of State Leia Organa, Supreme Commander Ackbar, and the Jedi Prince Ken were in attendance; General Calrissian was invited to the party but was unable to attend. Less-notable individuals, including many of Solo's smuggler acquaintances, were also present at the gathering, which featured an abundant supply of zoochberry juice and dancing to the music of a live band specializing in Corellian folk dances, including the Space Pirate Boogie.
After the party concluded, Solo received a communication from Calrissian explaining his absence: Cloud City was now under new management. Zorba Desilijic Tiure had gained control of Cloud City in a sabacc game. Tiure, whose son Jabba Desilijic Tiure had been killed by Organa, sought revenge, placing Solo's sky house and its occupants in danger. Following this news, further misfortune struck—Solo's brand-new housekeeping droid, KT-18, had fallen while cleaning the exterior. Skywalker and Organa swiftly boarded a cloud car and rescued her before she could crash, but were subsequently shot down by the defenses of Trioculus's weapons platform. Solo and Chewbacca were compelled to depart to rescue them. They briefly returned to the sky house to collect the droids and their personal belongings before Solo abandoned his home. Some essential items were left behind in the haste, including Solo's birth certificate. The Empire and Tiure were simply too close and too powerful for Solo to feel safe remaining at that time. Both Solo and Organa expressed hopes of returning to the sky house and believed that they would settle down there, but it was not meant to be. Eventually, when the New Republic conquered Coruscant, Solo, compelled by his marriage to Councilor Organa Solo, spent his life on that world, the center of government.
Han Solo's sky house was initially mentioned by Jedi Prince series authors Paul and Hollace Davids in the 1992 children's book The Glove of Darth Vader. In that book, the married authors depicted Solo expressing his long-held desire for a sky house and his intention to begin constructing one. The house appeared under construction in the sequel, The Lost City of the Jedi, and was completed by the opening of the third book, Zorba the Hutt's Revenge, in which it was also fully named. In that book, Solo hosted a housewarming party before being reluctantly forced to abandon his sky house. However, subsequent books Queen of the Empire and Prophets of the Dark Side established that Solo and his future wife, Leia Organa, intended to return to the sky house in the future, where they would raise their family. Despite this occurring very early in the renaissance of the Expanded Universe, after 1993's Prophets of the Dark Side, the final book of the series, the sky house was never seen or heard of again in all further canon. Instead, the previous novels of the Thrawn Trilogy and future stories such as The Black Fleet Crisis, the Corellian Trilogy, The New Jedi Order: Star by Star, and The New Jedi Order: Traitor firmly established that the Solos spent their life on Coruscant once that planet was taken by the New Republic.
