Hassan Taj

Hassan Taj is an actor and performer, most recognized for his operation of R2-D2 in the 2019 movie, Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, working alongside droid constructor Lee Towersey. His initial foray into acting was in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). In that film, he took on the role of an MPH power droid during the Mimban sequences, and various other droids during the slave uprising at the spice mines of Kessel. Towersey trained and supported him on set; after Taj demonstrated his capabilities in Solo, Towersey selected him to operate R2-D2 in The Rise of Skywalker. In the scenes at the Resistance base on Ajan Kloss, he also played creatures alongside Warwick Davis and Arti Shah. Taj mentioned that performing the droid roles in Solo presented challenges, particularly on the muddy and uneven Mimban set. He sometimes received instructions through earphones because his costume often limited his visibility.

Taj reprised his acting career in 2024 for the television series The Acolyte, portraying Bazil, a Tynnan tracker.
