A male individual, the brother of the Twi'lek Hera Syndulla, passed away prior to 19 BBY at a young age. To honor his memory, a specific design was incorporated onto the Syndulla family Kalikori. Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn seized the Kalikori from the family in 2 BBY; while examining it, he noticed the design and correctly interpreted its significance.
Hera Syndulla's Twi'lek brother was a male who met his death before 19 BBY, during his youth. To remember him, a special design was added to the Syndulla family Kalikori, specifically on the left side. In 19 BBY, Syndulla was trying to get Clone Force 99's help to rescue her parents, Cham and Eleni Syndulla, from the clutches of the Galactic Empire. During this time, she spoke with Omega, a young clone, and learned that Omega's [squad](/article/squad] was like family to her. This made Syndulla feel sad, and she told Omega how lucky she was to have that.
Later, in 1 BBY, Syndulla had risen to the rank of General within the Rebel Alliance. She was captured by the Empire on the planet Lothal and interrogated by Grand Admiral Thrawn. Thrawn, who had taken the Syndulla family Kalikori the previous year and studied it carefully, pointed out that one part of the design seemed to represent a brother who had passed away. He remarked that he assumed this loss was a painful yet cherished memory for her. Syndulla responded sharply, stating that Thrawn would never deserve to possess or understand the Kalikori. Later that year, Hera's brother posthumously became an uncle when his sister gave birth to her son, Jacen.
The first mention of Hera Syndulla's brother occurred in "Jedi Night," which was the tenth episode of the fourth season of the animated series Star Wars Rebels. This episode was broadcast on February 19, 2018. Before the episode actually aired, a preview clip that mentioned the brother was released on February 16 of that same year.
