Jacen Syndulla, a male human-Twi'lek hybrid exhibiting Force-sensitivity, came into existence during the era of the Galactic Civil War. He is the offspring of General Hera Syndulla and the deceased Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus, in addition to being the grandson of Cham Syndulla, the Twi'lek revolutionary leader.

General Hera Syndulla of the Rebel Alliance gave birth to Jacen Syndulla on the planet of Lothal in 1 BBY. His father, Kanan Jarrus, a Jedi Knight, had already died in battle, before Syndulla's birth, against the forces of the Galactic Empire while saving Hera and their crew not long before Lothal's liberation. He was also the grandson of Cham Syndulla, the Twi'lek freedom fighter, a renowned veteran of the Clone Wars and the struggle against the Empire.
Throughout the Galactic Civil War, Syndulla was raised as his mother fought for the Rebel Alliance. By the time the Empire was defeated in 4 ABY at the Battle of Endor, young Syndulla was regarded as a member of his mother's crew aboard the starship Ghost and was designated the callsign Spectre 7. Although Syndulla never knew his father, he was surrounded by love from those he considered family, including the droid C1-10P, also known as "Chopper". Chopper, who had been his mother's companion since childhood, became a close and constant friend to Syndulla. Despite the astromech's typically grumpy nature, the young boy brought out his playful side.
By 5 ABY, Jacen and Hera were separated because his mother was involved in the final stages of the Galactic Civil War, including the Battle of Jakku where she almost died and thought about Jacen during what she thought were her final moments.

Around 9 ABY, Jacen went with his mother when she addressed the New Republic Senate Committee. He stayed with Chopper while Hera attended the meeting via hologram, requesting permission to lead a task force to the Denab system to investigate an incident involving Imperial loyalists that suggested the possible return of Grand Admiral Thrawn. While his mother was in the meeting, Chopper informed Jacen that "Aunt Sabine" was training to be a Jedi under Ahsoka Tano. After Hera finished her meeting, Jacen expressed his desire to become a Jedi as well.
Following an urgent message that his mother received from Huyang, asking for assistance for Wren and Tano on Seatos, Jacen and Chopper accompanied her aboard the Ghost. Along with five T-65B X-wing starfighters piloted by Captain Carson Teva and Lieutenants Baysee, Mowaat, Jensu, and Lander, the fleet entered hyperspace at Hera's command as Jacen pulled the hyperdrive lever.
Upon arriving at Seatos, Jacen and his mother narrowly avoided the destructive path of the Eye of Sion as it jumped to hyperspace. After landing on the planet, they immediately sensed that something was wrong, as both Ahsoka and Sabine had vanished without explanation. Unbeknownst to them, Ahsoka had been cast into the waters around the reflex point henge and was having a near-death experience in the mysterious World Between Worlds. Jacen sensed her presence through the Force and helped Huyang and his mother find and rescue the wayward Jedi from the sea. After her recovery, Jacen and Ahsoka shared a warm reunion before she and Huyang jumped into hyperspace in pursuit of the Eye of Sion with the help of a flock of Purrgil. Jacen watched in amazement from the Ghost as the huge creatures disappeared into the vastness of space with a bright flash of light.
Jacen Syndulla is a male hybrid, the product of a human father and a Twi'lek mother. He largely resembles humans, although his green hair mirrors his mother's green skin tone, and the tips of his ears and eyelashes are also green. By the New Republic Era, Jacen's height was 1.42 meters.
As a result of his exceptional parentage, the boy displayed a natural talent as a [pilot](/article/pilot] from an early age. Sabine Wren, Hera's longtime friend and crew member, recognized that Syndulla was destined to fly, just like his mother. He also has blue eyes and tan skin. Jacen has a strong bond with Chopper, who became his companion while his mother was away. The two became known for causing mischief when left alone, as noted by Mon Mothma. Jacen also aspires to become a Jedi, just like his father. He also has a close relationship with the rest of the Spectre crew as well as Ahsoka, referring to Sabine as 'Aunt Wren'.
Like his father before him, Jacen possesses Force-sensitivity. His strong connection to the Force enabled him to sense Ahsoka Tano's duel with her former Master Anakin Skywalker in the World Between Worlds, hearing the clash of lightsabers, which allowed the New Republic fleet to locate Tano.

Jacen Syndulla was first seen in the epilogue of "Family Reunion – and Farewell," the last episode of Star Wars Rebels. His first name, Jacen, was taken from Jacen Solo, the son of Leia Organa Solo and Han Solo in the Star Wars Legends continuity.
Executive producer Dave Filoni had considered introducing Jacen Syndulla in the series finale throughout the production of the fourth season. He initially shared his idea only with Kiri Hart, the head of the Lucasfilm Story Group, who supported the character's introduction. Filoni intentionally chose the name Jacen to honor the character of Jacen Solo and his significance in the Star Wars Legends stories. However, Vanessa Marshall, the voice actress, was unaware of Hera's pregnancy with Jacen when she recorded the final episode and only found out during a fan screening.
At Dragon Con 2018, Henry Gilroy, a Rebels writer, stated that Jacen might have been conceived during the episode "Kindred," describing the scene where Hera finds Kanan meditating in the fields, which is cut short with a time jump. He was responding to a question from StarWars.com writer Bria LaVorgna about when Jacen was conceived. However, this has not been confirmed in any canon source.
Although Filoni claims he hasn't thought much about where the character might go in future stories, many Lucasfilm creatives have shown interest in the character's future since the Star Wars Rebels finale aired on March 5, 2018. Jacen was later revealed to be appearing in the Ahsoka series in the LEGO Star Wars: Ahsoka set 75357 Ghost & Phantom II. In the set, the character has brown hair; however, the series still shows him with green hair. He was first portrayed in live-action in "Part Three: Time to Fly," the third episode of Ahsoka. Evan Whitten played the character.
