The Syndulla clan, hailing from Ryloth, held a position of considerable influence among the Twi'leks. Notable figures included Cham Syndulla, who spearheaded the Twi'lek Resistance against the Confederacy of Independent Systems's operations on Ryloth and subsequently commanded the Free Ryloth Movement opposing the Galactic Empire's dominion. Also of note are his spouse, Eleni Syndulla, and their offspring, Hera Syndulla, who aligned herself with the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Eventually, Hera bore a son, Jacen Syndulla, with the human Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus; Jacen's birth occurred after his father's demise. Jarrus was posthumously inducted into the Syndulla lineage when Hera incorporated him into the family Kalikori.

Within the clan were individuals like Cham Syndulla's family consisting of his wife, Eleni Syndulla, their daughter Hera Syndulla, and her brother, who passed away during his youth. Cham emerged as a prominent Twi'lek revolutionary, leading the Twi'lek Resistance against the Confederacy of Independent Systems and subsequently commanding the Free Ryloth Movement against the Galactic Empire. During the Clone Wars, Eleni, Cham's wife, sheltered their daughter Hera underground as the Separatist Droid Army occupied their home planet. Upon the arrival of the Republic's Clone Army, the young Twi'lek gazed at their ships, harboring aspirations of becoming a pilot.
During the Battle of Ryloth, a BTL Y-wing starfighter met its end near the Syndulla residence. Though the pilot perished, Hera rescued the astromech droid, C1-10P, known as "Chopper", from the wreckage, forging a bond with him.
Sometime during the Imperial era under the Galactic Empire's rule, Eleni Syndulla passed away, prompting Hera to leave Ryloth to pursue her flying ambitions, causing friction in her relationship with her father.

At some point, Hera Syndulla and Chopper of the Syndulla clan encountered a surviving member of the Jedi Order, who was in hiding because the Empire was hunting them after Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine declared the Jedi as traitors to the Republic and enemies of the Empire. Formerly Jedi Padawan Caleb Dume, he now went by the name Kanan Jarrus. Together they would fight against the Empire aboard Syndulla's modified VCX-100 light freighter, the Ghost. Syndulla and Jarrus eventually began a romantic relationship. Throughout the Empire's reign, Jarrus and Syndulla encountered Lasat warrior Garazeb Orrelios, Mandalorian artist Sabine Wren, and Force-sensitive orphan Ezra Bridger, forming a close-knit family known as the Spectres. Syndulla and Jarrus assumed parental roles for Wren and Bridger, guiding them to become virtuous individuals and offering support during life's challenges. Over time, the crew became more deeply involved in the Rebellion, confronting formidable adversaries from the Inquisitorius to Grand Admiral Thrawn, ultimately joining the broader Rebellion to establish the Alliance to Restore the Republic. In 1 BBY, Jarrus gave his life to protect his newfound family, but not before conceiving a son, Jacen Syndulla. In honor of Kanan, Hera included him in her family's Kalikori, welcoming him into the Syndulla clan. Bridger later mirrored Kanan's actions by guiding Thrawn away from the known galaxy.

Hera and Jacen continued to serve the Rebellion throughout the Galactic Civil War and into the New Republic era. Around 9 ABY, Thrawn resurfaced as the heir to the Empire, prompting Hera and Jacen to join forces with their friend Ahsoka Tano in an effort to locate Bridger and defeat the Grand Admiral once and for all.
By 5 ABY, Ryloth was liberated from Imperial control when the Empire abandoned its bases on the planet. Tekku Aylay, an elderly Twi'lek male, expressed gratitude to Cham, his Twi'lek resistance, and figures like Yendor for freeing their homeworld.
Kanan's legacy endured, with Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker drawing inspiration from Jarrus as he endeavored to rebuild the Jedi Order, even chronicling his life in his book The Secrets of the Jedi. By 35 ABY, the Ghost crew remained active, participating in the Battle of Exegol. During the battle, Rey, the last Jedi, called out to the Jedi of the past, and Jarrus was among those who answered. The Resistance ultimately prevailed, ensuring the survival of the Republic and the Jedi.
