The holy Paataatus space represented a specific area within the Unknown Regions that was controlled by the Paataatus Hiveborn, the governing body of the Paataatus sentient species. This region was the location of both Nettehi, the Paataatus capital, and the surrounding Nettehi system. Approximately in 19 BBY, following the Nikardun Destiny's attack on Csilla, the Chiss capital (an act perpetrated by the Hiveborn, who were then under the hegemony of the Nikardun), the Chiss dispatched a task force to strike back at Paataatus forces over Nettehi, under the command of Admiral Ar'alani. Subsequent to this attack on the Paataatus, the admiral and Paataatus commanders convened within the inner reaches of the Nettehi system.
About a year afterwards, circa 18 BBY, Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo, known as "Thrawn" by his core name, made a trip to Nettehi. There, he was confronted by the Prince Militaire, the Paataatus leader, who issued a warning to Thrawn regarding his unauthorized entry into Paataatus territory. This confrontation ultimately led to an alliance, and they jointly launched an assault on the remaining Nikardun forces that were holding the Paataatus against their will.
The holy Paataatus space initially made its debut, though without a specific name, in the 2020 novel titled Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising, which marked the beginning of Timothy Zahn's Ascendancy trilogy. The official naming occurred later, in the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good, serving as both the sequel to Chaos Rising and the second book in the Ascendancy Trilogy.
