HT-77 Cold Assault Armor, a specific variant of clone trooper armor with insulated properties, was specifically engineered for missions in cold climates. These included icy polar regions and planets far removed from the warmth of their respective sun, for instance, Orto Plutonia. While all clone troopers serving the Galactic Republic received training in its use, the armor found its primary application among clone cold assault troopers specializing in cold-weather combat strategies. These troopers were deployed during the three-year galactic Clone Wars, a conflict between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
This Cold Assault Armor incorporated supplementary thermal seals and insulated coverings. It significantly improved upon the standard clone bodysuit's inherent temperature regulation. Additionally, the helmet's integrated sensory equipment was tailored to address challenges presented by frigid environments. The visor lenses underwent treatment to minimize glare from snow and prevent ice accumulation from moisture exposure. Furthermore, the audio feedback and comlink technology suppressed the disruptive effects of strong winds and other forms of interference. The price of the armor was 4,000 credits.
The HT-77 Cold Assault Armor made its initial, though uncredited, appearance in "Trespass," the fifteenth installment of Star Wars: The Clone Wars' animated television show's first season, initially broadcast on January 30, 2009. Its official identification occurred later, within Rise of the Separatists, a 2019 expansion for Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars Roleplaying game series.
