During the dark times of the Great Jedi Purge, the Galactic Empire relentlessly hunted Caleb Dume, a Jedi Padawan, who was now branded as a fugitive. Notably, his former brothers-in-arms, Clone Captain Grey and Clone Captain Styles, were among his pursuers. Dume, having allied himself with smuggler Janus Kasmir, successfully evaded the pursuing clone trooper officers until they reached the planet Lahn, where they intended to rendezvous with General Kleeve, formerly of the Separatist forces. Dume's capture nearly led to his execution within the Kaller system, as Styles wished to relish Dume's death rather than simply ending his life on Lahn. However, his companions mounted a rescued and freed him. Furthermore, Dume had reached Grey, who defied the control of his behavioral modification biochip and heroically sacrificed himself by destroying their own Gozanti-class cruiser to ensure Dume's survival. Following the deaths of Grey and Styles, Dume separated from Kasmir and Kleeve, adopting the alias "Kanan Jarrus" to distance himself from his previous life.
