Hunt on Chandar's Folly

In the year 14 BBY, subsequent to the Berch Teller campaign, Governor Wilhuff Tarkin settled a score with the Sith Lord Darth Vader. He arranged for **himself](/article/gender) and nineteen other individuals to pursue Vader on the planet known as Chandar's Folly. Vader had requested this hunt from Tarkin, having discovered Tarkin's history of hunting on Eriadu. On the second day of their pursuit, the hunting party located Vader within a grove of thurian trees. They encircled him, armed with flamethrowers, and unleashed a barrage upon the Sith. As he was engulfed in flames, Vader retaliated, targeting the flamethrowers and causing the death of four hunters. By the ninth time the hunt had been going on, the hunting party had suffered the loss of eight more individuals.

On the hunt's concluding day, Vader eliminated all but Tarkin, who then led the Sith into a storm-ridden area. Consequently, Vader sustained significant injuries from a lightning strike, prompting Tarkin to summon his ship for their extraction.

Behind the scenes

While Tarkin depicts Darth Vader gaining knowledge of Tarkin's background during their shared service in the Berch Teller campaign, Star Wars: Timelines provides a retconned account, asserting that Vader's awareness of Tarkin's early life and the Hunt on Chandar's Folly predates the events portrayed in the novel.
