Hurd was a male Human who fought for the Galactic Republic within the ranks of the Mantellian army during the time of the Cold War. During a portion of that conflict, he was stationed on the planet of Ord Mantell, where he engaged in combat against the Mantellian Separatist Movement as part of the Separatist War.
During the Cold War, a period of conflict between the Republic and the Sith Empire, Hurd was a male Human serving in the Mantellian army. He achieved the rank of Sergeant during this time and found himself stationed on the Republic-controlled planet of Ord Mantell, located within the Bright Jewel system of the Mid Rim. While stationed there, he and other Republic forces assisted the corrupt local government in their struggle against the Mantellian Separatist Movement.
While on Ord Mantell, Hurd operated from Fort Garnik, a key Republic base. During his assignment at Garnik, the Republic troopers under Hurd's command were tasked with protecting the Fort's stockpile of medical supplies. While guarding these supplies, one of Hurd's soldiers dozed off, presenting an opportunity for a Cathar named Yael, who was living in the refugee camp just outside of Garnik, to seize the supplies to aid her fellow refugees. The guard awoke just as the thief was escaping, but he was able to provide Hurd with the thief's gender and species.
Following this, Hurd enlisted the help of a smuggler known as Ace and a member of Havoc Squad, whom he met at Garnik, to recover the medicine, falsely claiming that it was desperately needed to save lives. Using the guard's description, the smuggler and trooper tracked the thief to the refugee camp and confronted her about the supplies. The Cathar admitted to taking them but explained that Separatists had subsequently stolen them and taken them to Talloran village. The smuggler and trooper successfully retrieved the supplies but made the decision to return them to Yael to benefit the refugees rather than giving them back to Hurd.
Hurd appears as a non-player character in the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Star Wars: The Old Republic, which was launched by BioWare in 2011. Hurd plays a role in the quest titled 'Mercy', where players face a choice between giving recovered medical supplies to him or to Yael. Choosing to give the supplies to Hurd represents a dark side decision, so this article assumes that players made the light side choice and gave the supplies to Yael. Selecting the dark side option results in the player receiving the same reward from Hurd, either Drelliad boots for smugglers or hardened plastifold boots for troopers. Players aligned with the Imperial faction cannot interact with Hurd because there is currently no way for Imperial characters to reach Ord Mantell.
