The Invasion of Tatooine, a significant clash, unfolded on the planet of Tatooine during 19 BBY, a period defined by the Clone Wars.
Prior to launching their assault on the desert world, the Confederacy of Independent Systems utilized a drone ship to dispatch a reconnaissance force. This patrol, comprised of probe droids, was intended to gather intelligence. However, their mission was cut short by clone trooper X2, who, together with his genetic "brother" X1, had recently been stationed at the Republic training grounds under the command of Jedi General Ferroda. Following this initial skirmish, the Confederacy initiated a full-scale offensive, encompassing both space and ground engagements. On the ground, X2 proved instrumental, eliminating numerous OG-9 homing spider droids and employing a v-150 anti-orbital ion cannon to disable the deflector shields of a Confederate Providence-class carrier/destroyer positioned in orbit.
Subsequently, X1 and X2 entered the space battle piloting V-Wing starfighters. X2, along with other clone troopers, boarded the crippled carrier. Once inside, X2 employed a rocket launcher to obliterate the ship's reactor core, triggering a catastrophic chain reaction that led to the carrier's destruction and a Republic victory. In recognition of their valor, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine invited X1 and X2 to Coruscant, the galactic capital, to receive commendations.

As the Clone Wars neared their conclusion, the Galactic Republic had set up special training grounds on the planet of Tatooine for their clone army. These facilities were under the supervision of Jedi Master Ferroda. During 19 BBY, X1 and X2, two clone troopers unlike the rest of the clone army, were assigned to assist General Ferroda. These two clones, secretly created using the DNA of Jedi Knight Falon Grey, had shown exceptional capabilities. X1 arrived first, followed by X2. Upon arrival, X2, under X1's guidance, instituted a training regimen for the new troopers, imparting essential shooting and close-quarters combat skills.
However, his training was disrupted when the clone troopers detected a Confederate probe droid within a Republic hangar. After X2 neutralized it, it became apparent that the probe was part of a larger reconnaissance operation. Seizing control of an All Terrain Recon Transport, X2 eliminated the remaining probes. He then boarded a V-Wing starfighter and pursued the drone ship that had deployed the droids into space. X2 destroyed the ship, effectively neutralizing the Confederate threat. Nevertheless, X1 and X2 recognized that a full-scale Confederate invasion was imminent.
The Republic forces stationed on the planet were subjected to a substantial Confederate attack. Republic Venator-class Star Destroyers engaged Confederate Providence-class carrier/destroyers in orbit, while the enemy deployed a considerable invasion force on the surface, complete with OG-9 homing spider droids, which trapped Republic clone pilots inside a bunker. X1 and X2 aided the clone pilots in repelling the B1-Series battle droids. Lacking the heavy weaponry required to effectively combat the spider droids, they were compelled to navigate through a droid-infested cantina to circumvent the enemy. After securing the cantina, X2 received a rocket launcher from a fellow clone, enabling him to systematically destroy the spider walkers. As the battle intensified, the Confederacy continued to deploy more battle droids, including B2 super battle droids, via their drone ships. X1 requested reinforcements, and the clone troopers successfully repelled the droids.

Eventually, the Confederacy initiated a bombardment of Republic positions using their Vulture droid starfighters. Under Ferroda's command, X2 operated an anti-aircraft gun, shooting down enemy ships. With this task completed, efforts were directed towards destroying a Confederate cruiser by utilizing a v-150 anti-orbital ion cannon to disable its deflector shields. X2 executed this and then proceeded with his brother and other clones to a Republic hangar. After clearing the hangar of droids, X1 and X2 each obtained a V-wing starfighter and joined the space battle. The two clones entered orbit and eliminated the enemy fighter escorts that were protecting the destroyer with the disabled shields. X2 and a group of clones then boarded the ship and fought through numerous enemy droids to reach the ship's reactor core, which X2 destroyed with a rocket launcher. This caused the ship's core to reach critical mass and explode as X2 and the clones escaped in their fighters, securing the Republic's victory.
The bravery shown by X1 and X2 during the battle was duly recognized. Supreme Chancellor Palpatine invited the two clone brothers to Coruscant, the galactic capital, to receive medals. However, the award ceremony was interrupted when the Confederate General Grievous attacked Coruscant. X1 and X2 assisted the Republic forces during the invasion, contributing to its successful repulsion.

The Invasion of Tatooine was featured as the opening level in the 2009 video game Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron for the PlayStation Portable and the Nintendo DS. The name "Invasion of Tatooine" was made canonical in the Nintendo DS version. There are several contradictions in the depiction of the battle between the two console versions. While the PSP version claims that the battle was an "early victory" for the Republic, the Nintendo DS version establishes that it took place in 19 BBY, shortly before the Battle of Coruscant. Therefore, this article uses the 19 BBY date provided in the Nintendo DS version but describes the battle itself as depicted in the PSP version. In the Nintendo DS edition, X1 and X2 are assigned to oversee the construction of an outpost instead of training new troopers. They are working on the outpost when the Confederate attack begins, and they are caught by surprise. After Ferroda requests their assistance, they head to an invaded Republic garrison, helping the clone troopers they encounter along the way, and clear it of droids. The two then take BARC speeders to an outpost across the desert where they meet up with Ferroda. Together with the Jedi, X1 and X2 fight their way to a hangar and take ARC-170 starfighters into space. There, X2 infiltrates a Lucrehulk-class battleship instead of a Providence-class destroyer.
