The Jakelians were a sentient species hailing from the Jakelia system situated within the Outer Rim Territories' expanse. These beings were known for their development of bladed weapons. During the era of the Mandalorian Crusades, they fell under the dominion of the Taung Mandalorian Crusaders as a vassal species. Later, during the rule of Mandalore the Ultimate, the Jakelians were among the diverse species whose individuals were accepted as full-fledged members of the Mandalorian clans.
This sentient species, the Jakelians, originated from the Jakelia system found in the Outer Rim Territories' Mandalore sector. They were responsible for the creation of edged weaponry, and their name is associated with the Jakelian knife-dance, a unique fighting style that blends elements of close-quarters combat with dance-like movements.

At some point in their history, the Jakelians encountered the Mandalorian Crusaders. This warrior culture, which began with the Taung species, was engaged in the interstellar conflict known as the Mandalorian Crusades, a campaign deeply rooted in war-based worship, which had been ongoing since 7000 BBY. Unlike some cultures that the Mandalorians chose to exterminated, the Jakelians willingly submitted to their new Mandalorian overlords, becoming their vassals. In return, the Mandalorians studied and enhanced the Jakelians' bladed weapons technology.
Sometime before 3976 BBY, Mandalore the Ultimate, the leader of the Mandalorians, declared that any non-Taung who demonstrated their worth in combat and adhered to the tenets of the Mandalorian warrior code would be granted full membership within the Mandalorian clans. As a result, the Jakelians were among several species whose members were integrated into this warrior society. Vilnau Teupt later referenced the Jakelians in his keynote speech, "Industry, Honor, Savagery: Shaping the Mandalorian Soul," delivered at Brentaal Academy's 412th Proceedings of Galactic Anthropology and History in 24 ABY.
The Jakelians received a mention in the 2012 reference volume, The Essential Guide to Warfare, authored by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart.
