Publisher's summary

The inaugural assignment of Mace and his team in the newly initiated Clone Wars continues its progression! What is the Separatist objective concerning the world of Hissrich? Can Mace triumph over the mercenary droid AD-W4 to thwart their plans?

Plot summary

The comic begins by flashing back to a meeting between AD-W4 and General Grievous, where Grievous briefed the droid on the Hissrich mission and the possibility of Jedi intervention. AD-W4 makes it abundantly clear that his motivation is financial gain, not allegiance to the Separatist cause.

Returning to Hissrich, Rissa Mano and Mace Windu are once again in combat with battle droids. Windu attempts to disable a harvester droid, and with Mano's lightsaber assisting him, he succeeds in destroying it. Subsequently, the two Jedi decide to press on in their search for the primary base.

In a separate location, Kit Fisto and Prosset Dibs find themselves within a completely dark cave, exchanging jokes about Dibs' lack of sight. They encounter a Milodon that they are forced to eliminate.

Grievous makes contact with AD-W4 to inquire about the status of the Hissrich operation, and AD-W4 assures him that everything is proceeding as planned. Grievous then asks about the Jedi, to which AD-W4 responds that Windu is deceased. When Grievous requests to see the Jedi lightsabers as evidence, AD-W4 requests them from one of his battle droids, only to discover that they do not have any. This leads the mercenary to destroy the droid in anger and leave.

Windu and Mano make the decision to reconvene at their ship after learning that the droids are organizing a search party for them. Meanwhile, Fisto and Dibs come across the deceased bodies of the native population they were tasked with protecting. Dibs expresses his outrage, questioning how this aligns with the Jedi's sworn duty. As rain begins to fall, Dibs and Fisto make their way back to the ship, while AD-W4 continues his search for them.

Dibs confronts Windu, accusing him of deception and claiming that the Jedi Council is exploiting the Jedi, rejecting the Order's current path. Windu dismisses his accusations as absurd, and the situation escalates as Fisto restrains Mano from intervening. The comic concludes with Windu challenging Dibs to a confrontation to resolve their dispute.
