A humanoid species characterized by chitinous traits was native to a jungle planet. This species held the belief that there existed only two realms: their own world and everything beyond it, and they actively avoided contact with anything originating outside their planet. To maintain purity and conceal themselves, members of this species donned masks and wrapped garments, with the additional conviction that this practice could restore their spirit if it became tainted.
An individual from this species, who would later be known as Kairos and serve as an emissary between her people and the outside world, was captured as a prisoner by the occupying forces of the Galactic Empire on her planet and subjected to experimentation within a prison camp. As a consequence of becoming tainted, Kairos sought healing by encasing herself in wrappings and a mask. However, before her spirit could be fully restored, she sustained critical injuries during the New Republic's campaign in the Cerberon system. To prevent her dying, surgeons were compelled to remove her suit. Upon regaining consciousness, Kairos opted to forgo wearing her mask, feeling incomplete due to the disruption of her healing process.
Following a navicomputer malfunction that led her to her homeworld, Kairos found herself stranded alongside Chass na Chadic and Yrica Quell after piloting her U-wing to the planet. While attempting to salvage equipment to repair the vessel, the trio took up residence in the then-abandoned Imperial outpost. Attracted by their presence, a group of Kairos's people gathered near the outpost, believing the Empire had returned and seeking to expel them. Because Kairos was unwilling to reveal herself to her people, the group departed the outpost to repair the U-wing elsewhere.
