Karrels Javis, a Human male who operated as a criminal, held the position of lieutenant under the Hutt crime lord Suudaa Nem'ro, the ruler of Jiguuna during the era of the Cold War. While engaged in activities on Nal Hutta, his standing diminished due to a string of unfortunate events for which he was held accountable. This led to the rise of Javis' Twi'lek competitor, Toth'lazhen, who gained prominence within Nem'ro's organization.
The Sith Empire, aiming to persuade Nem'ro to cease his impartial business dealings and align with them, deployed a battle-trained agent from Imperial Intelligence to penetrate Nem'ro's inner circle. Disguised as a pirate known as the "Red Blade," the Agent provided assistance to Javis in his efforts to regain the Hutt's favor. Throughout the mission, the Agent maintained communication with the spymaster "Keeper" located on the Imperial capital world of Dromund Kaas.
As the mission unfolded, Keeper disclosed that Javis' offspring, Serjil and Vargai, who were engaged in merchant shipping, became embroiled in a conflict with a Sith, resulting in Serjil's demise and Vargai's severe incapacitation. Aware that this revelation would compromise Javis' willingness to support the Empire, Keeper instructed the Agent to assassinate Javis and frame Nem'ro's Hutt rival, Voontara Fa'athra, for the act. Proceeding with this directive, the Agent successfully fabricated evidence indicating Fa'athra's involvement in Javis' murder, with assistance from the Galactic Republic.
During the Great Galactic War, Karrels was a member of a gang that posed a threat to a thirteen-year-old Nem'ro. After witnessing the deaths of his comrades, Javis harbored resentment towards the Hutts.
Following the Treaty of Coruscant, which marked the commencement of the Cold War, Karrels began collaborating with Nem'ro the Hutt on Nal Hutta. However, his standing with the crime boss deteriorated due to a series of mishaps orchestrated by his rival, Toth'lazhen. Despite his long-standing animosity towards Toth'lazhen, Javis remained silent for many years.
In 3643 BBY, the concluding year of the war, Karrels persisted in his duties as the Empire sought to convince Nem'ro the Hutt to abandon his neutral business dealings and become a loyal ally. Karrels resisted joining the Empire but was compelled to act when Imperial Intelligence dispatched a new agent to infiltrate Nem'ro's inner circle. Fearing that the Empire and the Republic would soon seize control over the Hutts, who had taken control of gangs on the planet, Karrels informed Nem'ro of the agent's arrival under the guise of the "Red Blade." While escorting the agent to the throne room, he cautioned that cooperation was mandatory to avoid a death penalty. As the agent conducted business in the palace, Javis continued to formulate security plans and monitor his nemesis to prevent any potential trouble.
Eventually, the agent offered their services to bring glory to Nem'ro under the direction of Keeper. Javis tasked the agent with retrieving a shipment stolen by the Evocii by meeting with Odeph. The assignment was successful, but Javis had a brief conversation with Toth'lazhen regarding Fa'athra's mining operations and the reduction of gas supplies.
Around that time, Karrels' sons encountered a Sith Lord, resulting in one son's death and the other's injury. Imperial Intelligence recognized that this could jeopardize their entire operation if Karrels discovered the truth and swayed Nem'ro away from an alliance with the Empire. The agent was then assigned to eliminate Karrels while framing the Galactic Republic for his demise.
Depending on the choices made by the player, Javis' fate can be determined in two different ways. Killing him results in the acquisition of dark side points. Faking his death results in the acquisition of light side points.
If the player chooses to let Javis live, it is mentioned in a message from Keeper that Javis gathered a group of men to rescue his surviving son from the Sith. Javis was initially intended to be involved in the "Finding Vengeance" mission on Voss but was removed before release.
