Voontara Fa'athra, a Hutt of considerable influence, existed during the Galactic War period, a time of conflict between the Galactic Republic and the newly empowered Sith Empire. He stood in opposition to Suudaa Nem'ro, a member of the opposing Nem'ro clan, with the intention of seizing Nem'ro's territory. Ultimately, Fa'athra crossed paths with the Imperial Agent known as Cipher Nine on the world of Voss. Enraged by the agent's actions which resulted in his expulsion from Nal Hutta, he commanded his forces to assault Nine, but instead met his demise. He was commonly referred to simply by his cuirvas, Fa'athra.
Born after 3843 BBY, Fa'athra rose to prominence as a new, ambitious member within the Hutt clans, specifically clan Fa'athra. Deviating from the conventional Hutt methods of gradually amassing wealth and authority, Fa'athra distinguished himself as a keen tactician who reveled in overwhelming his adversaries with brute force. Following the signing of the Treaty of Coruscant and the commencement of the Cold War, Fa'athra orchestrated the assassinations of several Hutts who had fallen out of favor with the Cartel. He eventually became a rival to Suudaa Nem'ro, aspiring to usurp his position on Nal Hutta from his base of operations, a palace situated in the Eastern Grime. As Fa'athra held a lesser regard for Hutt Cartel regulations, he considered himself an adherent to the ancient ways of the Hutt.
During the Cold War period, Fa'athra was embroiled in a conflict with Nem'ro. Unbeknownst to him, he became entangled in a scheme orchestrated by the Sith Empire, who sought to secure Nem'ro's loyalty. An agent of the Empire, who would later be known as Cipher Nine, aided Nem'ro by assassinating Karrels Javis, Nem'ro's trusted lieutenant, and framing Fa'athra for the act, making it appear as though he was supporting the Republic. The deception succeeded, and Fa'athra was subsequently driven off of Hutta.
Around 3640 BBY, Hunter informed Fa'athra of Nine's true identity. Enlisting the services of several mercenaries, Fa'athra journeyed to Voss with the intent of exacting revenge upon the agent. His hired men captured Bas-Ton, Nine's contact and an undercover operative for the Empire. When the Cipher Agent confronted him, Fa'athra and his forces engaged Cipher Nine, only to be defeated utterly.
Fa'athra the Hutt is a character featured in the 2011 video game Star Wars: The Old Republic. He appears in person during Chapter 3 of the Imperial Agent's storyline, which takes place on Voss.
Depending on the player's decisions, Fa'athra's ultimate fate can be determined in one of three ways:

- The Agent advises Fa'athra to relinquish his animosity, resulting in the Hutt's peaceful departure (light-side dialogue)
- The Agent carries out the execution of Fa'athra (dark-side dialogue)
