Hunter (Star Cabal)

Hunter, a female Human operative working for the Star Cabal, disguised herself as a male Agent within the Galactic Republic's Strategic Information Service during both the Cold War and the Galactic War.

Biography

The early years of Hunter's life remain largely a mystery, except for the fact that the Star Cabal discovered her as a young child. Utilizing the Black Codex, they removed all records of her name and origin planet. She underwent training on Tatooine with the Old Man, learning to convincingly portray a completely different person using a holographic disguise. Assuming the identity of a Human male, Hunter successfully infiltrated the Republic Strategic Information Service and became part of Ardun Kothe's team. When Cipher Nine, an agent of Imperial Intelligence, offered to defect, Hunter met with them on Nar Shaddaa, providing the location of the warehouse where Kothe's team was situated. At this juncture, Hunter also informed Kothe about the Imperial Castellan mind control used on the Cipher Agent, along with the specific code word that would render them completely subservient.

Hunter joined Cipher Nine on a mission aimed at recovering Starbreeze from Hoth. Posing as a male, "he" provided the agent with a SIS dossier concerning Imperial Ensign Raina Temple. However, upon Temple's recruitment into Cipher's team, Hunter employed the agent's brainwashing code, compelling them to eliminate Temple should she become a liability. Cipher later managed to break free from this brainwashing with assistance from Watcher X.

Hunter's male alter-ago, which she wore for most of her life.

Later, Hunter betrayed both Cipher Nine and Ardun Kothe on Quesh, orchestrating a bombing raid to obliterate the [Shadow Arsenal](/article/shadow_arsenal], thereby preventing either faction from gaining an advantage in the conflict. Cipher Nine soon discovered the existence of the Star Cabal and began working to dismantle them. Hunter visited the mining colony on Isen IV and, feigning allegiance to the Empire, carried out extensive sabotage operations, attempting to falsely accuse the Empire of being the aggressors. Upon Nine's arrival at the colony, Hunter had left a holorecording, cautioning the agent against interfering with the Star Cabal's schemes, or he would reveal the agent's identity to anyone harboring a grudge against them.

After Nine uncovered Megasecurity Ward 23 on Belsavis, Hunter dispatched Pashon Cortess, who held Nine responsible for the downfall of his family, to assassinate the agent, but he was unsuccessful. Hunter subsequently contacted Nine via holo after the agent unknowingly delivered a rigged holorecording that incapacitated Intelligence's genetically enhanced Watchers and began boasting. He then issued another warning for the agent to cease their investigation, threatening to destroy everything Nine valued. Undeterred, Nine vowed to thwart the conspiracy before that occurred and terminated the transmission.

As Nine traveled to Voss to uncover the conspiracy surrounding the Shining Man, Hunter dispatched Voontara Fa'athra, whom Nine indirectly caused to be exiled from Nal Hutta, to the planet. Fa'athra abducted Nine's contact, Bas-Ton, who possessed crucial information for the agent's mission, in an attempt to lure Nine into a trap, but the Cipher outmaneuvered and killed him. With Nine having acquired the information from the Shining Man's starship, the conspiracy retaliated by using their influence to disband the Operations branch of Imperial Intelligence. Hunter then sent Nine a holomessage, revealing the truth behind Intelligence's dismantlement, and that he could no longer protect the agent from her colleagues.

Nine journeyed to Corellia, where a major battle between the Republic and Empire was underway, eventually infiltrating an airship where Hunter was hosting an "apocalypse party," preventing Corellia's wealthy citizens from taking any constructive action as their planet was engulfed in flames. Hunter monitored the agent's progress via hologram and revealed the Star Cabal's plan. Through the use of disinformation, they intended to manipulate both the Empire and the Republic into destroying each other, thereby eliminating both the Jedi and the Sith, allowing "ordinary" people to take control. Nine dismissed the conspiracy's vision as delusional, asserting that the galaxy would remain unchanged, only with different adversaries. Hunter then incapacitated Nine with coma gas and tasked his mercenaries, formerly of Eidolon Security, with interrogating the agent to ascertain the contents of Moff Zamar's report on Imperial forces. However, Cipher was actually on the airship to provide false information under duress, thereby disrupting the conspiracy's plan. Cipher then escaped the airship and fled to Capitol Square. Hunter alerted Neyla Hawkins, whose sister Nine had killed, who cornered the agent in the Military History Museum, only for Nine to kill her in turn and detonate the museum to fake their death.

With their plan thwarted, the conspiracy convened at the Star Chamber to attempt to adapt. However, Cipher, aided by the remnants of Intelligence, discovered and infiltrated the station to eliminate all the conspirators and obtain their secrets. Hunter soon recognized his error and, as Nine shot the Prince, Hunter fled to activate the station's defenses, fearing an external attack. As the inner circle was being slaughtered by the agent, Hunter jammed the agent's transmission with Keeper from the meeting room. Later, confronting each other at the Black Codex core, Hunter expressed surprise that an Imperial Cipher could pose such a threat to the entire Star Cabal. In response, Nine labeled Hunter a "sick man with sick dreams," which he rejected, leading him to engage Cipher Nine in combat, ultimately resulting in his defeat.

At the agent's mercy, Hunter abandoned her disguise. She asserted that they were very similar and that they had both played "the game" effectively. Enraged by her view of manipulating people's lives as a game, Nine refused to equate Hunter to the agent and executed her.

Behind the scenes

In her last moments, Hunter reveals to Cipher Nine that she was either jealous or infatuated with them, depending on Nine's gender. If Cipher Nine is male, there is an option to kiss her (neutral dialogue). She will commit suicide to avoid capture (light side dialogue) or if she is called a freak, which would not grant any light side or dark side points. Nine also has the option to kill her, either before or after Hunter reveals her true identity (dark side dialogue).
