Kashi Mer talisman

The Kashi Mer talisman represented a Force based relic hailing from the ancient Kashi Mer monarchy. Arden Lyn, Xendor's consort, employed it to sustain her physical form for millennia before her eventual restoration. Subsequently, the Dark Jedi known as Durrei sought it, finding himself in a contest against the Rebel Alliance.

Description

The talisman took the form of a prism-shaped, grey stone, its dimensions measuring roughly 20 by 10 centimeters. Imbued with the powers of the dark side, the artifact exuded an aura of malevolence. Its surface felt cool to the touch, and it imparted a sensation of power to its wielder, granting them insight into the relic's complete potential, believed to be the capacity to directly harness the dark side.

History

Kashi Mer dynasty

Arden Lyn was resurrected by the power of the talisman.

For an extended period, the talisman resided with the Kashi Mer dynasty, evolving into a cherished family treasure. However, Reda Jalooz, a young student of the Force, absconded with the artifact. Jalooz's motivation stemmed from her discovery of a "dark secret" associated with the talisman. After months of experimentation, she became convinced of the wrongfulness of her actions and managed to overcome the talisman's power. She willingly returned to Kashi—albeit without the relic—and sought forgiveness from its inhabitants. Nevertheless, her repentance failed to bring tranquility to the planet, as the system's sun underwent a supernova shortly after her arrival, resulting in the annihilation of all life and the obliteration of its millennia-old civilization.

Subsequently, the talisman somehow fell into the possession of Xendor, a Kashi Mer exile, and his consort, Arden Lyn. Xendor, originally a Jedi Knight who abandoned the Order and led a faction of Jedi to establish the Legions of Lettow, initiating what became known as the First Great Schism. The Jedi pursued and ultimately killed Xendor. Later, Jedi Master Awdrysta Pina confronted Arden Lyn on Irkalla within the Unknown Regions. There, Lyn unleashed the relic's dark energies, killing Pina by shattering his lightsaber and impaling him with the fragments. However, in his final moments, Pina employed the Jedi technique of morichro to halt Lyn's bodily functions, seemingly causing her death. In reality, Lyn, a member of the Followers of Palawa, utilized their Force-induced trance ability, augmented by the talisman, to induce a state of suspended animation, thus averting death.

Re-emergence

The relic landed nearby, remaining undiscovered for approximately 250 centuries, until the era of the Great Jedi Purge. The Inquisitors Antinnis Tremayne, Ameesa Darys, and Grand Inquisitor Laddinare Torbin stumbled upon the planet and discovered the relic within a tomb, situated near a desiccated yet remarkably preserved corpse—that of Arden Lyn. Unintentionally, they brought the relic into close proximity with the body, triggering Lyn's restoration to life accompanied by a piercing scream. Lyn, under the mistaken belief that they were responsible for Xendor's death, sought to avenge him.

She inflicted severe injuries upon Tremayne and killed Darys before Torbin severed her arm and captured her. Subsequently, she was presented to Emperor Palpatine, who pledged to resurrect Xendor from Chaos in exchange for her service as one of his Emperor's Hands.

Despite serving the Emperor for several years, Lyn eventually realized his insincerity in fulfilling his promise, a feat that should have been achievable with the talisman's power. Consequently, Lyn forged an alliance with Grand Admiral Demetrius Zaarin and attempted to abduct the Emperor in 4 ABY. Although the plot initially succeeded, it was ultimately thwarted by Darth Vader and Maarek Stele. Fearing retribution, Lyn fled the Empire, pursued by a vengeful Tremayne. She embarked on a quest to retrieve the talisman, hoping to resurrect Xendor herself.

The Dark Jedi Durrei sought the relic.

Conflict

The Emperor's demise occurred shortly thereafter at the Battle of Endor, and the talisman vanished. It resurfaced in the Corva sector five years later. Mahk'khar, a Gotal crime lord, acquired the relic on the planet Tuulab. He intended to trade it with Durrei, a Dark Jedi affiliated with an Imperial faction in the Outer Rim. The New Republic Intelligence Service also learned about the talisman and dispatched a team to locate and secure the artifact. The team launched an assault on Durrei and Mahk'khar during their exchange on the planet Jandoon, but failed to prevent Durrei from escaping with the artifact. The New Republic team persisted in their pursuit of Durrei.

Arden Lyn, however, never managed to reclaim the talisman, as she was killed one year later by the resurrected Emperor for her act of betrayal.

Behind the scenes

This talisman made its debut in the Star Wars Adventure Journal article titled "Relic," published on May 1, 1995. Its sole subsequent appearance occurred in the Star Wars Gamer 5 article titled "The Emperor's Pawns," released on May 1, 2001 and authored by Abel G. Peña.

The sole published depiction of the talisman appears to contradict the artifact's description. The image portrays it as light in color, rather than dark or grey, and curved instead of being prism-shaped.
