Khar Shian, a frigid and desolate world, functioned as the sole moon orbiting Khar Delba. Khar Delba itself was a planet situated within the Sith Worlds region of the Outer Rim Territories. This icy wasteland served as the operational hub for the Dark Lord of the Sith, Naga Sadow, housing both his primary power base and his elaborate palace. Conversely, his fabricated stronghold was strategically placed on Khar Delba. Sadow cleverly concealed his true fortress on the moon's perpetually dark side, an ideal location for secrecy since it never received sunlight. Furthermore, Sadow also kept his immense war fleet hidden in orbit around the moon's obscured face.
In the year 5000 BBY, Ludo Kressh, Sadow's rival, launched an attack on Khar Delba. During this assault, Sadow's citadel on Khar Delba endured a fierce orbital bombardment. However, Sadow had anticipated this move. He promptly mobilized his fleet stationed at Khar Shian, launching a counter-offensive against Kressh's vulnerable flank. This calculated maneuver, combined with a series of other deceptive tactics orchestrated by Sadow, ultimately secured a resounding victory for the Dark Lord in the battle for Khar Delba. Following this triumph, both Khar Shian and Khar Delba transformed into pivotal centers for Sith military expansion, laying the groundwork for a future invasion targeting the Galactic Republic.
Khar Delba was circled by Khar Shian, its only moon, which resided within the Outer Rim Territories' Sith Worlds region. Because one side of Khar Shian was always facing away, it was tidally locked to Khar Delba and the other side was never in sunlight. This moon's surface was marked by numerous craters and consistently blanketed in snow and ice.

Around 5000 BBY, Naga Sadow's Khar Delba citadel was believed to be the headquarters of Dark Lord of the Sith Naga Sadow. However, this was a front; Sadow's real actual base and defenses were on the far side of Khar Shian, unbeknownst to the Sith Empire. That year, viceroy of Khar Shian, Naga Sadow, used the moon to stage an attack on the planet Ziost. The purpose was to free hyperspace explorers Gav and Jori Daragon, who had run into the Empire while fleeing creditors on Koros Major. The Galactic Republic was meant to appear to be the attacker, and the attack was successful. Gav Daragon was taken to Khar Shian after the Daragons were separated.
Gav Daragon was from then on held in Sadow's secret fortress on Khar Shian. Sith training was given to him by Naga Sadow, who helped him unlock his hidden Force-sensitivity. Daragon was shown the ways of the dark side of the Force by Sadow, and eventually became Sadow's Sith apprentice. Sadow learned that his rival, Sith Lord Ludo Kressh, had gone to Ziost to protect the Daragons' starship, Starbreaker 12. Sadow ordered his Massassi underlings to attack Kressh's defenders on Ziost, while he left Khar Shian. Sadow's Massassi warriors stole the Starbreaker 12 and brought it to the decoy fortress on Ziost. Kressh learned that Sadow was behind the attack and gathered his allies to attack his rival. During the battle, Kressh's force bombarded Naga Sadow's citadel on Khar Delba from orbit. However, Sadow's real fleet was at Khar Shian, unbeknownst to Kressh.
Sadow offered little resistance from Khar Delba, lulling Kressh into a false sense of security, making him think victory was assured. Sadow then sprung his trap. He called in his secret fleet from Khar Shian, which struck at Kressh's flank. Kressh's defeat was ensured by this move, along with Sadow's replacement of Kressh's crews with Sadow'een, assassins loyal to Sadow who then killed Kressh's allies. Kressh fled, seeing no hope for victory. Naga Sadow began planning an invasion of the Galactic Republic, gathering the rest of his fleet from throughout the Sith Empire, with nothing in his way. Sadow's growing militarization was based around Khar Delba and Khar Shian. Sadow's fleet was eventually completed, and his invasion force assembled near Khar Shian. From there, Sadow launched the galaxy-spanning Great Hyperspace War. However, Sadow and the Sith were eventually defeated by the Republic.
Seviss Vaa, a member of the Brotherhood of Darkness during the New Sith Wars, studied the worlds of the Sith Empire. In his recordings in the Telos Holocron, he said that he found the Khar Shian ruins to be extremely enlightening. He also claimed that Republic scouts stripped the moon of its Sith treasures after the Great Hyperspace War, but the Emperor Palpatine disputed this in his addendum, saying that he recovered valuable relics there.
After the Battle of Yavin, some shadowfeeds reported that Khar Shian, along with Begeren, Jaguada, and Korriban, had been explored and blockaded by the Galactic Empire. Others said that these worlds may have been four ancient homeworlds of the Sith.
By 4 ABY, Khar Shian had become the site of a major Galactic Empire shipyard during the Galactic Civil War with the Alliance to Restore the Republic.
Naga Sadow and his Sith subordinates, including many Massassi warriors, were the only inhabitants of Khar Shian. Gav Daragon was also kept on the moon for a time.
Khar Shian was a barren, unremarkable moon, with the only feature being Naga Sadow's palace and citadel, hidden on the dark, far side. Naga Sadow's true center of power was his Khar Shian fortress, while he maintained the facade of another citadel on Khar Delba. Sadow's war fleet stayed in orbit around the far side of the Khar Shian, higher up above the moon.
Khar Shian first appeared in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi – The Golden Age of the Sith, a story arc of the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi comic book series, written by Kevin J. Anderson and released in 1996. The moon is in the arc's third, fourth, and fifth issues. It also appears in Tales of the Jedi: The Fall of the Sith Empire, the follow-up arc to The Golden Age of the Sith, in the first issue, Desperate Measures, and the second issue, Forces in Collision. Dario Carrasco, Jr. illustrated the moon in these appearances. Khar Shian was mentioned in Ryder Windham's reference book Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force in 2007.
