Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi – The Golden Age of the Sith #4 represents the fourth installment, and nearly the last, of the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi — The Golden Age of the Sith comic book miniseries, which is part of the broader Star Wars Legends continuity. Kevin J. Anderson served as the writer, Dario Carrasco, Jr. provided the illustrations, and Dark Horse Comics initially released it on January 8, 1997.
The narrative within this issue is titled "Pawns of a Sith Lord," and it depicts the beginning of Sith Lord Naga Sadow's instruction of Gav Daragon in the ways of the dark side.
Gav and Jori Daragon were initially terrified when the sinister Sith took them captive. Now, Jori is concerned about her brother's soul, as Naga Sadow, an aspiring Dark Lord, starts teaching him the dark side of the Force. Naga Sadow is engaged in a perilous strategic game, with the Daragon siblings serving as mere pieces.
On the planet Ziost, Naga Sadow, the newly appointed Dark Lord of the Sith, receives a mark on his forehead from a pair of Sith pincerbugs.
At the same time, Empress Teta, accompanied by Odan-Urr and Memit Nadill, travels to Coruscant to present Odan-Urr's recent premonition to the Senate. Despite the Senate's apparent skepticism, Teta pledges to reinforce the military strength of at least the Koros system.
Meanwhile, at Naga Sadow's Khar Shian citadel, Gav Daragon, who is Force-sensitive, employs a Sith amulet to create illusions. Sadow praises Daragon, informing the young Human of his potential and asserting that the Sith magic he acquires will prove a valuable asset in their coming struggle. He advises Gav to master Sith magic to ensure his safe return home.
Sadow proceeds with the next phase of his scheme, dispatching his devoted Massassi warriors to infiltrate Ziost and seize the Starbreaker 12. Subsequently, the Dark Lord journeys to his decoy fortress located on the nearby world of Khar Delba, where Jori Daragon is being held captive. When Jori inquires about seeing her brother, Sadow assures her that he is safeguarding them, as they remain subject to the execution order. Upon Jori's request for her ship's return, he guarantees that he has already made "extreme arrangements."
On Ziost, Sadow's Massassi warriors penetrate the Starbreaker 12's impound hangar, eliminating Ludo Kressh's guards. Before departing aboard the Starbreaker 12, they deliberately leave behind Naga Sadow's emblem, which Ludo Kressh soon discovers. Realizing that Sadow orchestrated a deceptive attack to seize power, Kressh summons his fellow Sith Lords Horak-mul and Dor Gal-ram, demanding an assault on Sadow's fortress.
Some days later, Sadow revisits Jori on Khar Delba. He presents a hologram message from her brother Gav, who reveals that Sadow has instructed him in utilizing his Force powers in a "different way" and that Sadow has arranged for their return to the Galactic Republic.
Subsequently, Sadow unveils the Starbreaker 12 to Jori, claiming to have recovered it. He informs her that she is now free to return home and escape this ordeal. Before Jori can depart, Kressh's fleet, led by Horak-mul and Gal-ram, launches an attack on the icy planet. Jori becomes frantic and urges them to seek shelter. However, Sadow remains unconcerned, as this is all part of his strategy.
