Publisher's summary

Jori Daragon is currently undergoing a trial because she is accused of having committed crimes against the government of Empress Teta. But, rather than being a criminal, Jori is attempting to get in touch with the Empress with the intention of alerting her to the sinister schemes that the Sith Empire is hatching. If the court finds her guilty, she will be forced to live on a colony planet. And then, the Empress will be completely exposed to the Sith, with nobody to protect her.

Plot summary

Jori Daragon is on trial in "overflow courtroom 4" of Cinnagar located on Koros Major, facing a multitude of accusations, including grand theft, firing on Cinnagar security vessels, property damage, fraud, resisting lawful arrest, wanton destruction, and leaving without permission. Jori attempts to make the judge aware that her sibling, Gav, is being held against his will by the Sith Empire, and that the Sith are actively preparing to launch an invasion. The judge disregards her story, dismissing it as fantasy, and sentences her to perform strenuous labor on the colony planet Ronika.

The Cha'a merchant known as Ssk Kahorr takes possession of the vessel Starbreaker 12. While being escorted onto a prison transport, Jori receives a kit containing allergy treatments, anti-venom injections, emergency bandages, and eye protection from ultraviolet radiation.

Simultaneously, on the world of Ch'hodos, Naga Sadow, the Dark Lord of the Sith, is amassing the forces of Shar Dakhan, a Sith Lord, to initiate an invasion of the Republic. Gav Daragon feels uneasy about Sadow's allusions to fresh blood, but the Sith Lord insists that it was merely a figure of speech. As his unease grows, Gav hopes to be reunited with his sister.

Naga Sadow's military strength gathers above Khar Shian, situated in the remote regions of the Sith Empire. His forces are comprised of warships, Sith war behemoths, and Sith war rhinos. Among Sadow's forces is a Sith Meditation Sphere, intended to serve as the central point for his offensive strategy.

On the harsh and arid colony planet of Ronika, Jori endures hard labor under the intense heat of the sun. She pretends to be injured by a stinger moth, and uses the opportunity to escape aboard a ore shuttle. Jori pilots the shuttle back in the direction of Koros Major, but is intercepted and shot down by security vessels. She successfully ejects with a parachute and lands within the streets of Cinnagar.

Jori successfully infiltrates Empress Teta's palace and issues a warning to the Empress about the impending Sith invasion. Odan-Urr validates the parallels between Jori's report and a vision he experienced. Empress Teta, sharing Odan-Urr's concerns regarding the Sith Empire, begins to mobilize her forces in anticipation of the coming conflict.

Far above Khar Shian, Naga Sadow gives Gav Daragon the position of commander of the Koros Major invasion fleet, stationing him aboard his Sith Meditation Sphere. As the Dark Lord provides Gav with instruction in the ways of the Sith, his armada initiates its journey into hyperspace, setting a course for the Republic.
