Kitrin Braves, a distinguished journalist and biographer, undertook the task of crafting a biography about the Skywalker family. This biography, entitled Skywalker: A Family At War, was initiated after the Battle of Exegol in 35 ABY. During her research, she collaborated with Beaumont Kin, a respected historian, sharing her insights on figures such as the Jedi Anakin Skywalker. Kin incorporated this information into his own book, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, acknowledging Braves' contributions within its pages. Following the publication of Kin's work, Braves' biography was eventually released.

Subsequent to the Battle of Exegol in 35 ABY, the well-known journalist and biographer Kitrin Braves dedicated herself to the creation of Skywalker: A Family At War. This comprehensive biography delved into the history of the Skywalker family, a Force-sensitive lineage that profoundly influenced the course of galactic events in the preceding decades. Braves shared her findings concerning the entire Skywalker lineage with the historian Beaumont Kin, which proved invaluable to him as he researched his book, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire.
Kin synthesized Braves' research with documents discovered during the Exegol Excavation Project to shed further light on the transformation of the Jedi Anakin Skywalker into the Sith Lord Darth Vader. Braves also alerted Kin to the fact that all traces of information pertaining to when Vader became aware of the identity of his son, Luke Skywalker, had been expunged from all Imperial archives and databases.
When Kin's book saw publication in 35 ABY, Braves remained engaged in exploring Ben Solo's fascination with his grandfather Darth Vader, a complex facet of the Skywalker legacy. Within The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, Kin expressed his contentment in deferring the topic to her expertise. While Kin's work extensively covered Anakin Skywalker's period as an Imperial enforcer, he suggested Braves' forthcoming work for a more thorough examination of Skywalker's time as a Jedi. Kin also acknowledged Braves' contributions, which he deemed gracious, and asserted that he could envision no one better suited to chronicle the Skywalkers.

Skywalker: A Family at War was released sometime after The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire and opened with a concise overview of the life of Anakin Skywalker's mother, Shmi Skywalker, before Anakin's birth. It then detailed the lives of Anakin and Luke Skywalker, Luke's twin sister, Princess Leia Organa, and Leia's son, Ben Solo. The book's concluding chapter culminated with the death of Ben Solo during the Battle of Exegol, signifying the end of the Skywalker bloodline.
In an epilogue, Braves examined how Rey, Luke's apprentice and Ben's partner in a Force dyad, adopted the surname Skywalker to perpetuate what the biographer considered the most admirable aspects of the lineage, including upholding equilibrium between the light and dark sides of the Force.

The 2024 reference book Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, authored by Dr. Chris Kempshall, made mention of Kitrin Braves. The name "Kitrin Braves" is an anagram derived from the name of Star Wars author Kristin Baver, who penned a Skywalker-centric biography in the form of the 2021 book Skywalker: A Family at War. While Kempshall stopped short of explicitly confirming that Braves was modeled after Baver, his implications were strong, and Baver herself expressed gratitude to Kempshall for creating the character. Kempshall also pointed out that without A Family at War, he would not have been able to compose The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire. A StarWars.com blog post dated October 17, 2024, verified that Braves' book is the in-universe counterpart to Skywalker: A Family at War.
