Story Synopsis

On the world known as Arorua, a young Obi-Wan Kenobi barely manages to survive an encounter with a squollyhawlk. He then seeks out his mentor, Qui-Gon Jinn, who is accompanied by a small and irritating Moggonite named Mosko Bolpa perched on his shoulder. They bring Obi-Wan back to their temporary settlement, where Mosko's presence greatly annoys Obi-Wan, though Qui-Gon provides food for the creature, which is met with little appreciation. After Mosko departs, he returns in the dead of night, leading what appears to be his entire clan in an attempt to murder the two Jedi and plunder their belongings. Their endeavor fails utterly, as the Jedi eliminate every single one of them. Fearing the potential arrival of more Moggonites, Qui-Gon proposes relocating their camp.

During their search for a new place to settle, Obi-Wan inquires about Qui-Gon's initial act of feeding and caring for Mosko, followed by his subsequent killing of the creature without any visible regret. Qui-Gon elucidates that the Living Force dictates all of his actions; if Mosko had succeeded in killing him, he would have been unable to fulfill his duties as a Jedi. Obi-Wan identifies a nearby mountain as a possible new campsite, but as they approach, its appearance becomes increasingly ominous. Qui-Gon reveals that it serves as a sacrificial altar dedicated to a silan. Qui-Gon declares that he must enter, guided by the Living Force. Obi-Wan reluctantly accompanies him, and together they brutally slay the enormous silan residing within.

After the two Jedi establish a new camp in the vicinity, Obi-Wan questions the justification and reasoning behind their actions. Qui-Gon responds that the Living Force is enigmatic, and he remains uncertain about its motivation for directing them to launch the attack. Nevertheless, Qui-Gon reassures Obi-Wan, informing him that he "is in the hands of something much greater and much better than he can imagine."
