Biography

Lira Wessex, a human female, gained prominence as a ship designer of considerable renown. She was the offspring of the esteemed starship engineer Walex Blissex. Working at Kuat Drive Yards (KDY), Wessex and her team conceived the Venator-class Star Destroyer, a vessel that saw extensive action during the Clone Wars spanning from 22 BBY to 19 BBY. The Venator's distinctive wedge-shaped design marked the beginning of a series of wedge-shaped capital ships constructed by KDY. In 19 BBY, KDY leveraged the Venator-class as a foundation for the Imperator-class Star Destroyer, a vessel that experienced limited deployment during the Clone Wars.

In 19 BBY, following the Republic's transformation into the Galactic Empire, KDY refined the Imperator-class, resulting in the Imperial-class Star Destroyer. Wessex, now aligned with the Empire, and her team contributed the design of this vessel. In 6 BBY, she engineered KDY's Raider I-class corvette, intended for engaging enemy attack craft and conducting anti-starfighter operations. Although Imperial strategists initially deemed the Raider-class an inefficient frontline warship, it proved crucial in countering the starfighters of both pirates and the Rebel Alliance. Wessex and her team also developed the Executor-class Super Star Destroyer for the Empire. Manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards, the Executor-class commenced service shortly after the Battle of Yavin. The Executor-class Dreadnought was intentionally designed to surpass and enhance the capabilities of the Venator-class and Imperial-class, employing the "terror styling" design philosophy to instill fear, minimize vulnerabilities, and maximize impact. The names of Wessex and Blissex are shared with the "Wessex-head" and "Blissex-head" bit-drivers, respectively.
