The magnetomic gription boots, sometimes referred to as simply gription boots, were a specialized type of boot incorporating magnetic technology. These boots were standard issue for Galactic Empire range troopers serving aboard the 20-T Railcrawler conveyex transport stationed on the planet of Vandor. The magnetized design of these heavy-duty gription boots enabled the range troopers on Vandor to perform security inspections of the conveyex while it was in motion. Furthermore, the Jedi Knight known as Cal Kestis also made use of gription boots during an operation to gain access to a Haxion Brood base. He had obtained them from a Haxion Brood member that he and the Nightsister Merrin had previously eliminated.
Magnetomic gription boots were purpose-built magnetic boots used by Imperial range troopers assigned to the 20-T Railcrawler conveyex transport functioning on the planet of Vardos. They consisted of typical armored footwear similar to that worn by stormtroopers, but with the addition of servomotors around each ankle. These servomotors were essential for operating the boots when their powerful sole-mounted magnets were engaged. As a result, each boot weighed 4.5 kilograms. The boots connected to a control interface, usually found on a trooper's vambrace armor plate, allowing for instant activation of both mag-seals with a button press, indicated by twin lights on each shin. A handle located at the front of the shin made them easier for troopers to carry when not in use. Despite the seemingly crude appearance of the oversized servomotor and magnet assemblies, they were engineered for straightforward maintenance in the demanding operational environments where troopers were deployed, far from dedicated technicians.
The exiled Jedi Knight Cal Kestis employed gription boots sometime between 12 BBY and 11 BBY, during a mission to penetrate a Haxion Brood base. Kestis had procured these boots from a deceased Haxion Brood member, whom he and the Nightsister Merrin had killed earlier. This acquisition was considered one of the most valuable pieces of salvage the Stinger Mantis crew had obtained up to that point.
In 10 BBY, captain Denwade Banevans and his range trooper squad were equipped with magnetomic boots as standard gear. During their duty guarding a conveyex carrying a shipment of coaxium fuel, they were attacked by a group of smugglers attempting to pilfer the coaxium. They successfully utilized their boots to maintain their footing on the train and repel the attackers. Nevertheless, the smugglers managed to detach a carriage and escape with it aboard an Y-45 armored transport hauler.
