Mallatobuck, often shortened to Malla, held the position of wife to Chewbacca, the Wookiee who served as co-pilot alongside the Corellian smuggler Han Solo. During the time known as the Imperial Era, Malla and her family were subjected to enslavement under the rule of the Galactic Empire. This led to her separation from both her husband, Chewbacca, and their son, Lumpawaroo. After the events of the Liberation of Kashyyyk, she was able to rejoin her family.
As the spouse of Chewbacca and the mother of Lumpawaroo, Malla's life took a turn during the Imperial Era when she and her family were enslaved by the Empire. She, along with her son, found themselves in an Imperial slave camp located on Kashyyyk. At some point, Malla experienced the hardship of being separated from Lumpawaroo, who was then forced into child slavery within Commandant Dessard's camp situated on the slopes of Mount Arayakyak. Her husband, Chewbacca, was also enslaved, finding himself on the planet Mimban until Han Solo, a former Imperial Mud trooper, rescued him.
During the Galactic Civil War, a conflict that pitted the Galactic Empire against the Alliance to Restore the Republic, Chewbacca was traveling with Solo, far from Malla and the rest of his family who remained on Kashyyyk. However, following the Liberation of Kashyyyk from the Empire's control, Chewbacca was finally able to reunite with his wife and son.
Malla was a female Wookiee who held the roles of wife to Chewbacca and mother to Lumpawaroo. Han Solo described her as an intelligent individual with hair that was as soft as silk.
Mallatobuck's existence was first acknowledged within Star Wars canon in the 2015 novel for young readers titled A New Hope: The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy, which retells the story of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope and was written by Alexandra Bracken. The character of Malla was originally created for The Star Wars Holiday Special, a Star Wars Legends television movie that premiered in 1978.
