The family of the Wookiee Chewbacca from Kashyyyk, known as Chewbacca's family, encompassed his father Attichitcuk, his son Lumpawaroo, and his wife Mallatobuck. After Kashyyyk was liberated from the control of the Galactic Empire, Chewbacca was finally able to reunite with all of his family members.
Attichitcuk, a male Wookiee, and a female Wookiee gave birth to Chewbacca, who was their son.

Mallatobuck was Chewbacca's wife, and Lumpawaroo was his son. During the Imperial Era, Trandoshans subjected Chewbacca to slavery. "Malla," along with her son "Waroo," were also enslaved by the Galactic Empire and forced into an Imperial labor camp for slaves on their homeworld, Kashyyyk. Waroo was eventually taken away from his mother and made to work as a slave at the labor camp run by Commandant Dessard on the slopes of Mount Arayakyak. Chewbacca, on the other hand, was forced to cut down wroshyr trees to provide for the needs of the Imperial Army.
Eventually, Chewbacca found himself at a frontline base of the Imperial Army on Mimban, a world in the Expansion Region, where he was used to "feed" prisoners and earned the moniker "the beast." When Han Solo, a swamp trooper, was thrown into Chewbacca's pen for deserting, Solo successfully persuaded Chewbacca to escape with him. Subsequently, the two joined Tobias Beckett's gang and participated in various adventures that pitted them against the Crimson Dawn and the Cloud-Riders. Chewie, as a sign of gratitude for being freed from the Empire, pledged a life debt to Solo.
By 0 ABY, Chewbacca and Han Solo had become members of the Rebel Alliance after rescuing Princess Leia Organa and aiding in the transportation of the Death Star plans to the rebel base on Yavin 4. For the next four years, Chewbacca remained by Han Solo's side and accompanied him on numerous adventures that took them to Hoth, the Anoat system, and Cloud City. After Boba Fett the bounty hunter froze Solo in carbonite and delivered him to Jabba Desilijic Tiure, Chewbacca joined Lando Calrissian on a mission to rescue Han Solo, fulfilling his life debt to Han.
Chewbacca assisted Princess Leia, Lando, Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, and C-3PO in rescuing Han Solo on Tatooine, which resulted in Jabba's death at the Great Pit of Carkoon. Subsequently, Chewbacca participated in the Battle of Endor and played a role in capturing the second Death Star's shield generator on Endor.
Han, honoring Chewbacca's life debt to him, agreed to assist the Wookiee in liberating his homeworld of Kashyyyk in the months following the Battle of Endor, which marked the death of the Emperor, the collapse of the Empire, and the transformation of the Rebel Alliance into the New Republic. While attempting to recruit smugglers and Wookiee exiles, Chewbacca was recaptured by Imperial forces in 5 ABY and imprisoned at Ashmead's Lock prison on Kashyyyk. Solo, with the help of Norra Wexley and her team, managed to free Chewbacca and numerous other rebel prisoners from Ashmead's Lock.
Han and Chewbacca, along with Sinjir Rath Velus (a former Imperial loyalty officer), Jas Emari (the bounty hunter), Jom Barell (the New Republic commando), and several Wookiee exiles and former slaves, launched an attack on Grand Moff Lozen Tolruck's island fortress and deactivated the inhibitor chips that were used to keep the Wookiees enslaved. Subsequently, the Wookiees initiated a planet-wide uprising, which was supported by the New Republic. While Han departed to rejoin Princess Leia, Chewbacca remained on Kashyyyk to free his family.
Chewbacca, while participating in a joint Wookiee-New Republic cleanup operation, rescued his son Waroo from Commandant Dessard, leading to an emotional reunion. After Kashyyyk's liberation, Chewbacca was also reunited with his wife, Malla.
Following the Battle of Jakku, Chewbacca reestablished connections with his family. He also maintained contact with his old friend Han Solo, who had become the owner of a shipping company and the manager of the Five Sabers racing championships. Chewie also remained in contact with Princess Leia, who had become a New Republic senator. Following the Napkin Bombing and the public outcry resulting from revelations of Leia's true parentage as the daughter of Darth Vader, Chewie voiced his support for Leia.
Despite his peaceful retirement, Chewbacca chose to renew his partnership with Han Solo when the latter resumed his smuggling activities. Chewie's strong family ties and extended lifespan as a Wookiee allowed him to spend decades away from his people. In 34 ABY, Chewbacca and Solo encountered Rey Skywalker (the scavenger), Finn (the former First Order stormtrooper), and BB-8 (the droid). As a result, they became involved in the conflict between General Organa's Resistance and the First Order, an Imperial remnant seeking to restore Imperial rule over the galaxy. Chewbacca suffered a significant personal loss when his longtime friend Han Solo was killed by his estranged son Kylo Ren.
Following the Battle of Starkiller Base, Chewbacca accompanied Rey to Ahch-To, a world in the Unknown Regions, where Luke Skywalker had retreated. Chewie and Rey also assisted in evacuating General Organa and the remaining members of the Resistance during the Battle of Crait.
Chewbacca's family was remembered long after the Galactic Civil War. After a member of the Whills, who was in the process of writing the Journal of the Whills, became annoyed by the constant interruptions of another Whill, the other Whill decided to write an episode about how the Wookiee's family celebrated Life Day.
