Loyalty officer

In the Galactic Empire, loyalty officers (LOs) functioned as specialized officers who were commissioned by Darth Vader and operated within the Imperial Security Bureau's Internal Affairs division. Their primary responsibility involved ensuring the unwavering allegiance of troops to the regime. They held the duty of uncovering any transgressions against the Empire, ranging from minor behavioral infractions to outright acts of treason. To accomplish this, loyalty officers underwent rigorous training to interpret body language and identify falsehoods. Moreover, they employed more direct methods, which included searching the living quarters of suspects, scrutinizing their personal records, and consulting with their superiors regarding any past instances of insubordination. Because of these duties, loyalty officers instilled fear among the personnel of any base, battle station, or office where they were deployed. A loyalty officer could also command a squadron of TIE fighter pilots, which granted them the privilege of wearing a unique flight uniform featuring red highlights.

Approximately four years following the Battle of Yavin, Sinjir Rath Velus served as a loyalty officer stationed at the Imperial shield base located on Endor. However, Velus deserted his assignment in the aftermath of the Empire's defeat during the Battle of Endor.

Emarr Ottkreg was another loyalty officer, and he was assigned to Admiral Rae Sloane's vessel, the Vigilance, during the Battle of Endor. Sloane swiftly executed him when it became evident that the Empire was on the verge of defeat. Following the battle, Lieutenant Yrica Quell reflected on the fact that even the most zealous loyalty officers could recognize the impending demise of the Empire.
