Mando'a

Mando'a represented the language spoken by the native inhabitants of the planet known as Mandalore. Its written form was known as Mandalorian script. The Mandalorian artist and demolitions expert Sabine Wren possessed fluency in Mando'a, alongside proficiency in several other languages, including Galactic Basic Standard, Huttese, Aqualish, Rodian, and a degree of Shyriiwook.

Behind the scenes

The initial on-screen appearance of Mando'a in its written form occurred in the 2002 film Attack of the Clones, with the majority of the spoken language being crafted by Karen Traviss for works within Star Wars Legends. Within "Visions and Voices," the text of Mando'a is inscribed within the Nightsister lair by Maul, specifically spelling out the name "Kenobi."

During "Legacy of Mandalore," Sabine Wren communicates using Mando'a. Her words are "Su'cuy aliit Wren. Ibici Sabine Wren, ara'novor. Gedet'ye me'vaar ti gar." The interpretation of this dialog is "Hailing Clan Wren. This is Sabine Wren on approach. Please respond." The answering voice on the comm responds with: "Elek, Sabine Wren. Ke parer." This translates to "Copy 'Sabine Wren.' Standby."

Despite the provision of an official translation through subtitles, a more literal translation would be akin to "Hello, Clan Wren. This is Sabine Wren, approaching. Please (tell me) what's new with you." The reply's direct translation reads as "Yes, Sabine Wren. Wait."

Additional instances of Mando'a can be identified throughout the episode, with "sha'kajir," spoken by Tristan Wren, being particularly noteworthy. This phrase can be loosely translated as "Stop Shooting."
