During the Imperial Era, Auromae Iselo, a Melbu individual, worked as a bounty hunter before becoming a Cloud-Riders member and aiding the group in several operations against the Galactic Empire.
Another Melbu, Wef, functioned as an arms dealer during the same Imperial Era. He provided weapons to different clients, such as the Hidden Hand criminal syndicate, and the team led by Beilert Valance, a cyborg bounty hunter.
By the time of the New Republic Era, a Melbu bounty hunter had become a member of the Bounty Hunters' Guild. During a Guild mission, this Melbu met their end in a skirmish with Din Djarin, the Mandalorian.
The Melbu species was first seen in Solo: A Star Wars Story, a 2018 Star Wars Anthology Series film directed by Ron Howard. The design of the species originated from a drawing made by the daughter of artist Jake Lunt Davies. Davies, while interpreting the sketch, decided the horns would function as part of the respiratory system, featuring tubes connected to the mouth.
For the texture of the species' skin, squashes and gherkins served as inspiration, while the appearance of amber and other precious stones inspired the eyes. The overall color palette was deliberately chosen to evoke the aliens depicted on science fiction covers from the 1950s.
